Hey there just picked up the new box set for 8th and played through a sample game with a friend! A few questions that came up!

1) if my opponent is on top of a piece of terrain, example a container, and his models are placed at the edge, is it possible for me to even engage him in combat as I wouldn't be able to go base to base?

2) Wound allocation. Primaris marines have 2 wounds each. Say i attack and land 4 wounds on them from a character who does d3 sounds, how does my opponent allocate wounds? Would each marine (assuming its a 5man unit) each receive one wound, then roll their saves and any failed saves taking d3 wounds , or can he put all the wounds on 1 marine?

3) Can a unit use the LD of a nearby character for morale?

Thanks

1. This thread covers what you are asking: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/732247.page

Short answer, yes.

2. In the case of multi wound models, after you have determined how many wounds are inflicted, your opponent assigns one wound at a time (starting with any injured models), determines damage for that wound, then moves onto the next.

So with your above example, you scored 4 wounds, with d3 damage against a squad of 2 wound targets, I will lay out a potential scenario. Your opponent assigns the first wound, you roll a 1 for damage, that model receives a wound. Your opponent must assign the next wound to the same model, regardless of what you roll that model will be slain and excess wounds will be wasted (only mortal wounds carry over). He picks another model for wound 3, you roll a 6 scoring 3 wounds, the model is removed and the extra wound is lost. The 4th wound is assigned to a 3rd model and you make you final damage roll, which will result in either a half or fully dead primaris marine.

3. Only if the character or unit has a special rule that allows them to do so.

Thanks! Appreciate the info.

Also can you clarify the consolidate phase? Does everyone get to shuffle 3" wherever they want at the end of a combat regardless if they're still in combat or is it only when you kill the enemy?

Consolidate happens after every fight regardless of who dies. Just remember if you're in B2B contact however you cannot move as you won't legally be able to end up "closer", as per the FAQ. The only time you wouldn't consolidate is if you somehow killed your own unit fighting.
