Hey guys, just wondering where people find info on the builds and lists that win/place highly in the big tournaments? I'm having trouble figuring it out, can't seem to find it on the ITC page.
Thank you

The Blood of Kittens blog often features winning army lists.
Bow down to Guilliman for he is our new God Emperor!
Martel - "Custodes are terrible in 8th. Good luck with them. They take all the problems of marines and multiply them."
"Lol, classic martel. 'I know it was strong enough to podium in the biggest tournament in the world but I refuse to acknowledge space marines are good because I can't win with them and it can't possibly be ME'."
DakkaDakka is really the place where you need anti-tank guns to kill basic dudes, because anything less isn't durable enough.
Depends on what army you want to run. Give me the army name and I'll tell you which list can win an event. It's a lot more rock-paper-scissors than last time.
5 storm ravens are good, but can be countered by 150 razrowing flocks which in turn would have trouble against 100 Tau drones.

A good player is someone who knows and understands the strengths/weaknesses of the meta and also how best to exploit them. Knowledge is power. A good player is just someone who is more knowledgeable than the average joe, both in respect to in-game strategy as well as the pre-game strategies (i.e. list-building).

First: being able to correctly identify which units are strong for their cost, and correctly identifying a meta in which they might work, are indeed skills which still elude many MANY of the "forum players."
Second: it's important to remember that these are team format lists. The format itself encourages one-dimensional lists, because, unlike a singles event, you aren't completely at the mercy of the matchup gods. No decent, sane player would run these same lists at a singles GT.

These are all responses to the vehicle-heavy meta, it would seem.
No, this is the actual, true competitive meta. It just took a little time for good players to build up their hordes.
These lists didn't just appear day one of 8th Edition. They were a response to something. And, likewise, there will be a response to them. That is how metas form in the first place. The meta is not something that is static; it evolves as people bring different lists. They are an answer to vehicle-heavy lists, like Dante + Stormravens and, to an extent, Roboute + Razorbacks. Furthermore, these are ETC lists, so lists built to counter other specific lists. While events like the ATC and the ETC may give you a good look at what people are playing nowadays, it doesn't really give you a good measure of the meta itself because of its format.

Puma this is true to an extent, but the meta right now clearly is that hordes are more powerful than the guns that can kill them if you have the right horde units. Until something changes, that will stay the meta because those great horde units listed above can beat other hordes (or go even) and trounce many other armies. It's not like people can just say "bring flyers" or "bring more guns" and this will change those undercosted units.
There is a difference between the meta adapting to the current game state and the meta adapting to other parts of the meta. I think we're in the former stage, and I don't anticipate any of these strong lists changing until codices come out and increase the cost of brims or conscripts or razoring flocks.

@ JY2 I want to start out by saying I appreciate you battle reports, and the time you put in too help others become better through them.
But I believe this statement is very disingenuous
First: being able to correctly identify which units are strong for their cost, and correctly identifying a meta in which they might work, are indeed skills which still elude many MANY of the "forum players."
And that while slightly rude this comment is a little more accurate, although there is definitely skill and ability needed to be at the top consistently.
A good player is a grown man or woman who is willing to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to win a game just to be crowned the "little man king."
Within days of the new books coming out a reasonable amount of people knew that spamming certain units was going to be good. Saying that individuals are bad players or unintelligent because they are unable or unwilling to spend thousands of dollars to buy the latest broken army is extremely unfair. I have a GWGT Overall trophy in my model case, and I have not played in a competitive GT for years. Not because I can't, but because I am unwilling to spend that kind of money every time they release the latest broken rules. I still build and paint and play with a good group of guys, and we have fun, and there is no stress about having to have the latest models. We spent two years building a Great Gargant for the Adepticon team tournament five years ago for our display table. We ended up winning the trophy for best team theme and I am more proud of that trophy then any tournament trophy I have won, that took time and effort and a little skill. Buying 200 models because they are under cost for their competitive value not so much.

Thanks. Glad to be of service.
Btw, I didn't say those things in the quote. Someone else did.

JY2, sorry about that, you are correct my post should have been directed at Niv-Mizzet. That was a large part of the reason I posted, I was kind of bothered you would post something like that. Glad to know you are still the dude I thought you were
