Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

United States

Hey guys! I'm planning for the SoCal Open HH event and I've whittled myself down to two similar lists using the Army of Dark Compliance (AoDC) theme and was wondering about your thoughts? I know that they aren't super competitive, but I wanted something fun to play, thematic and hopefully won't be completely walked all over. Theme is a Iron Warrior heavy assault/forlorn hope detachment supported by auxilia heavy artillery and cannon fodder.

List 1:
Basically I like this list cause it can do a bit of everything, and also has more scoring units than the second. Sniping is nice and FNP on 60 scoring bodies isn't too bad (only T3 but still). AoDC theme means those Militia squads can also not count as Kill points at my discretion when the game starts.

HQ

List 2
Big difference here is no FNP troops, and fewer scoring units. Benefits are the Grenadiers have better Ld, BS, and Sv, making them a bit more resilient and shooty. Plasma rifles also means their shooting can hurt more and 30" lasrifles means they can reach out and touch most other troops w/o getting shot by bolters in return.

So figured out list two is illegal as I don't have more Militia units in it that Legion units. So list 1 it must be! Any suggestions about that list?

I've never had success with a Charnabal Sabre. A Power Weapon is almost always preferable, and that is only if you expect to get him into Assault. Also, if you can get a Automatic Pavaise on that Deredeo, do it. You can stack those Tyrants around the the Deredeo for a 3+ invul.

Huh, the pavaise had completely passed over my head! 3+ for my Tyrants would be nice. As for the sabre it was more a point filler than anything and works better than a CCW lol, now that I'm going to try to get the pavaise in I will prob have to drop it. Any suggestions for making a good conversion?

Thinking it it would be smarter to remove the Vexilia from the Militia squads and replace them with lascarbines/autoguns. The Alchem Jackers trait confers pseudo Stubborn in the assault phase, and if they fail a moral test in the shooting phase they become pinned instead of falling back so most of the benefits of having the Vexilia are negated methinks. With those extra 30 points I can give all those squads lascarbine which will allow them to match the range of most small arms in the game and put out twice as much fire under 12" than the auxilia arms. Thoughts?

The only thing i can say here is there isn't a lot that can deal with flyers save your own flyer, but the points seem tight at this stage and it's for deleting ground vehicles - could you get a fortification in there with a quad-gun to flesh out your AA threat?

Been thinking about it, I would really like to get my hands on a thunderbolt to use for this list instead of a Lightning. I'll see about squeezing in some AA fortifications

Ok I have kinda settled into this list. I emailed the TO and he agreed with me that if I stick a IW character into a squad of Militia the IW leadership rules would kick in if that squad had to take moral tests, which alleviates my biggest fear of my Medusas running away. Basically I'm thinking I'll stick my Master of Signal in the medusas and keep the Siege Tyrants within 6" of him. If I'm being honest that makes the place of my Force Commander seem a little redundant except for the fact that she will be keeping all my infantry squads from running thanks to Alchem Jackers. Been toying with the idea of replacing the Leviathan with a leman russ Squadron to up my overall firepower. Also that would free up points to take back Warrior Elite, and get some extra armor on those cortus contemptors to keep em moving, as well as get the AT breacher shells for my Medusas, for more garunteed AT. Even with a flare shield, think I stand a good chance at immobilizing or destroying a Spartan with 3 S10(S8 cause of flareshield) AP2 armorbane shots, along with 6 haywire shots from my dreads. Thoughts?

Edit:

Also thought I would throw this out there, the thing that scares me most with this list are quad guns, especially if they go after my Medusas. If I fight someone with Quads then it will just boil down to who can kill the others Artillery fastest, which I think I'll lose simply because I'll be outshot.
