Made a new account and thought I'd run a list idea by you guys. Hopefully I get some responses:

Facing nids, but I don't want to tailor against them, so I made a list that I thought seemed fun but strong and relied a lot on synergy.

BATTALION DETACHMENT:
HQ -
Epidemius
Nurgle Herald - Virulent Blessing

Troops-
30 Plaguebearers
29 Plaguebearers
3 Nurglings

Fast Attack-
Plague Drones x6
Plague Drones x6

SUPREME COMMAND DETACHMENT
Great Unclean One - Steam of Corruption and Fleshy Abundance
Great Unclean One - Steam of Corruption and Fleshy Abundance
Daemon Prince with a pair of claws - Steam of Corruption
Daemon Prince with a pair of claws - Steam of Corruption

So I used to have the great unclean ones replaced with nurgle soulgrinders, but I'm just not impressed with soulgrinders in this edition, and they seem way too expensive for what they do. Kind of ok shooting and only slightly better in Melee (which nerfs the shooting more) makes them way overcosted. The extra points for the slightly weaker GUOs, however makes the leadership bubble and psychic powers way better in the long run, plus they can heal themselves with Fleshy Abundance.

Epidemius buffs the whole army, the Herald buffs both squads of Plaguebearers/GUOs by them, and the plague drones fly around killing stuff per usual/summon in the GUOs if I choose to keep them in reserves. The princes just generally run around killing stuff with their claws and steam of corruption and hide behind the plaguebearers if I need to.

Thoughts? I'm playing this game in a few hours, so I'll be be able to tell you guys how it went.

Seems ok. I would rather see the plague bearers changed to something like 3 20 mans for better objective holding honestly.

You could cut the nurglings if needed to make a few points.

Have you tried beast of nurgle this edition?

Honestly
Epi is still underwhelming.

Most armies (excluding guard) will have larger squads, especially nids as they are fearless.
Meaning its going to be tough to get the tally up.

It works REALLY well against Tau though. Those 2 man drone squads.

Also, I assume your not playing Matched Play.
Since you have the same powers on your models.

So I played my friend against his nids and I tabled him, but there were a few factors that I know kind of make the results skewed. He played nids and genestealer cult, but made them almost all assault based with verrryyyy little shooting. By turn two, almost everyone was tied up in CC. He had a few easy units to kill, so by turn two, I was already at 4 on the Tally, and by turn three I was maxed out on it. The mission was the Relic too, so everyone was in the middle of the table. It was fun, but I know that this wasnt a normal game, and against any other army, shooting would have really hurt me more. I was lucky that they came to me instead of the other way around lol

I also did not know that a psychic power could only be manifested once a turn as opposed to per psyker. That isn't in the battle primer, so right away what I had planned to be my "shooting" attacks by Steam of Corruption turned into semi unreliable smite attacks. super lame and now I'm even more mad at how much mono-daemons were nerfed this edition. Summoning blows and now our psychic powers are gimped alongside almost nonexistent shooting ability. Now if you want to do well as daemons, either mix gods, or take allies imo, otherwise it's an uphill battle.

Plaguebearers were awesome. They were assaulted by 20 genestealers and passed all of their saves. I didn't lose a single one against 80 attacks lol

I have not played with beasts, but drones excelled in this game

Try Taking Vurelent blessing on the Daemon prince's.

7 attacks with +1 to wound. At S7. Ap-2 D2 6's mean Double damage (D4!), Hitting anything Toughness 6 or under Is Needing 2's, T7 3's

Thats a scary amount of damage, with the potential for some silly high damage stacking if you roll a few 6's to wound.

Can give him a warp bolter too and wings all for 189pts

Put a herald behind each of the plague bearer units for buff.

Plague drones just don't cut it in 8th. I replaced with 3 Foetid Bloat Drones - much better.

Great unclean Ones >10 wounds makes them targetable and they really struggle to be effective.

The soulgrinders with resilience have been the shining stars for me so far - get them into combat - I have a pair that I work together. The IA plague hulk version for 210pts is great too.

Curious how Epidemus is working out? Worth taking?

If you really want to be nasty drop a Nurgle Knight into the mix. The knight with 2 soulgrinders owned.

I agree that GUOs are iffy. Mine did a great job, but again, facing assault based nids made my list work great. I know that against shooting however I'd lose most of my stuff.

Drones were actually really good in my game, especially with a prince following them around. reroll ones on hits and reroll wounds made them kill even monstrous creatures. Each one doing 4 D2 attacks was pretty good.

I haven't used blight drones yet tho. Any good?

Epi did pretty good with the buffs. He's fairly tanky, so even if he's targeted he won't die easily and killing full units isn't too bad depending on who you are facing. Even if you get a few kills, the first few buffs are nice.

Cool. Give the bloat drones a go. They are a great unit. I take 3 and they rock

I have a game planned tomorrow against a friend, but I'll be playing death guard. I'll bring a couple drones to help out!

Connecticut

I've been playing a LOT of Nurgle this edition thus far. I'll share my 2 cents....

GUOs
If you have two models, go with them. GUOs are excellent for their points. They do die to massive lascannon fire, but I've had them completely wreck face multiple times. If I owned two, I would likely be running two.
My only worry with running 2 GUOs is that only one can heal per turn in matched play. In one game, I healed a single GUO for 10 wounds during the game. When you are splitting that out, it's not quite as awesome.
I've ran a renegade knight with my GUO in the past to good effect. This weekend I'm going to try Scabeiathrax the Blighted.

Plague Drones
Plague drones are fantastic units and one of the most under-appreciated units in the codex. Their value is not immediately visible on the statline, but becomes much greater in the game.
They benefit greatly from a prince flying in the middle of them. He gives them extra punch, and he also increases their chances of hitting.
Virulent Blessing is fantastic on Plauge Drones. It increases their damage output to 2/4. To make it even better, the reroll is applied before the +1. This means if they are attacking a rhino, for example, and you score 18 hits (not unreasonable rerolling 1s) you have a distribution like this. Your first set of rolls will produce 3 six's, 3 fives and then the rest will be failed rolls. You pick up those 12 dice and reroll them. Out of these, you get 2 more six's, 2 fives, and 2 fours. This means you got a total of 5 six's, 5 fives, and 2 fours. 5 of the wounds will cause four damage, and 7 of them will cause 2. When hitting something like a rhino, those five wounds are nasty.
Plague drones also have a large base, making them great for blocking in movement. I've used them to trap models from getting to objectives multiple times. Since they can fly, they ignore enemy models for movement, meaning you can charge a unit, and proceed fly over them and block their movement as part of your assault.
Plague drones have assault guns, so can shoot them after advancing.
Plague drones can fly, meaning they can leave combat and shoot their guns when needed -- which I have done.
Run your plague drones in units of 7. It makes Nurgle happy.
I run one unit. I've found that to meet my needs for the drones well. Let me know how 2 works for you.

Nurglings
3 stands of nurglings is just begging to have first blood taken from you. Personally I would not run this -- but your mileage may vary.
I run a squad of 7 of them in my army. Again -- Nurgle's magic number.
I used to use them to put heavy pressure on enemy units, but now I've been using them to place just outside my army's deployment zone to be in range of the herald and to stop deep striking alpha strikes.
A squad of 7 of them is much harder for someone to kill in a single turn.

Plaguebearers
Keep them at 30. Add an instrument. They are great units for holding objectives. In one game I had them strung along to grab 3 objectives, since units are not limited in this edition to only owning one objective.
Again, it's one of those units that can do more than they do on paper. I've had two cases where a big assault creature (hive tyrant and DP) assaulted my plaguebearers only to get killed on my turn in the assault. Plaguebearers are weak against units that can deliver a ton of attacks, such as bezerkers, but against units that hit a few times really hard (like a DP) they are hard as nails.
Yes, I've had an entire squad of 30 plaguebearers killed in a single round of shooting -- but this happened with my opponent spending his entire army shooting at them with a Tau shooting army. That has only happened once.

My Own Experience
This is just my own experience. You may have had vastly different experiences. For example, I've found soulgrinders to be really lackluster -- though people like S.e.r.a.p.h.i.m have had great luck with them. Basically it means that everyone finds what works for them

I also don't like soulgrinders. I agree with everything you've said about the other units too.

The only thing nice about nurglings is that yeah you may lose first blood, but attacking and then forcing an enemy to fall back and waste their turn is amazing if used on a shooty unit/tank.

Two drone squads worked out pretty great! I had them cover my sides and either lock up enemies, or support my bearers against a squad of 20 genestealers.

Let me know how scabby goes. I like him too, but I don't like how his aura only works in the fight phase. I was hoping it would work against all hits like it does with plaguebearers.
