Last night I played a 2000 pt game where I faced 2 stormravens and a knight (+ 3 H2H assassins and some GK with Draigo). Not WAAC but definitely competitive.


I was testing the viability of inceptors and a captain (not that great for the points). I also had 2 stormtalon gunships, 3 almost-fully-manned las devastator squads and Bubba G.

Failed to seize and by the end of GK turn 1 I had 1 wounded gunship and half a las dev squad left (in combat) + Bubba. (Inceptors and captain still waiting to come on).

My turn 1 my devs stepped out of combat, my inceptors came in and I managed to drop one raven down a profile and eliminate an assassin (Bobby G needed that objective).

GK Turn 2 I lost everything but Bobby G (2 wounds remaining after rising from the dead) and the captain. I removed another assassin and that's it. Game over.

GK player had draigo standing under the ravens, teleporting around and giving rerolls--very hard to beat



I realized my devs had to withstand an alpha strike. I was thinking about taking the Firestorm redoubt. For 300 points you get 2xquad icarus las, 20 wounds at T8 and 3+ save, plus it can shoot in combat (as can units inside).

Deploy 3 las dev squads in there and they will live to see turn 2.

Thoughts?

try it out. Ive looked into the Firestorm as well. Don't like the BS 5+ though but a character with rerolls might help.

If you're Imperium, jam a Vindicare in there. When he's not sniping characters he can fire las.

I believe that you can only deploy one infantry squad inside a fortification, plus any number of infantry characters. For that reason it might be better to use imperial bunkers instead.

So Vindicares count as Characters. I'm not sure if that was directed at me, but if it was you can totally put one with the Devastators.

EDIT: Actually, I see some saying the unit doesn't effect the BS of the fort, which is laaaame.

1 char + 1 infantry unit after all. And it hits on 5's, you are correct.

Well, there's a theory squashed. It hits like orks, except 4's on flyers.

And actually still hits at 5+ against fliers with Hard to Hit because they still apply the -1 which negates the +1.

Isnt the -1 to hit flyers only when they are supersonic?
If they hover then you get to hit on a 4+?

Makes the firebase more reasonable for my Orks
('cause 5+ is normal for us)
as I may be able to swarm the table so he has to hover
and hence hit on 4+

also, does the +1 vs flyers work vs all those jump packs and flying daemons?...

+1 vs units that can FLY (keyword).
