Taken from the new SM codex. Edit: Or the Dark Imperium Novel, was linked in the SM Codex thread in News and Rumours.

I've said it from day one, GW are priming us to scrap old marines in the future, and we'll be lucky to even get legacy rules for them ala Las/Plas Razorbacks. I genuinely think that the next time around we won't even have rules for the old marine models, and GW will give us a "Buy new models" answer, although realistically I can see people using their old Tactical Marines as Counts-As Intercessor models.

The grimdark thing to do would have the Primaris marines become corrupted in some fashion.

That's not from the Space Marine Codex, it's from the Dark Imperium novel, unless they're copy-pasting paragraphs from novels into the codexes now.

That's supposed to help open up battles between regular and Primaris marines. You're reading too much into it.

I still do not believe GW is going to scrap their most profitable product line. That is is just insane. It will take many, many years before the Primaris product line is extensive enough to take the old Space Marine's place.

But it is really nice to see GW setting up some conflict/tension between Primaris and regular Space Marines.

Most profitable? I wonder how many Space Marines players who have bought space marines from 20 years ago are buying.

The answer is zero. So make NEW space marines and people buy them. Now disallow people to use their old models and they are FORCED to buy new ones to continue playing. Some will quit, but they weren't making money for GW anyway so why would they care.

Yep, that's right all marines are being made OOP. Better give them away (to me) before GW comes round to your house to force you at gunpoint to melt them.

Seriously, this is another "Word Bearer claiming the lost legions became ultramarines" piece of fluff taken as gospel.

This is where I'd put my signature...If I had one!

The answer is lots of them. New rules mean new load-outs become viable, and rare is the player that has EVERY combination in abundance. Maybe the player has Black Templars and wants to play Ultramarines or Blood Angels. Maybe he's gotten better at painting and wants to start over again for a better looking army. I've painted three or four different Space Marine colors myself (custom chapter original plastic beakies, original metal Crimson Fists, Death Eagles, custom chapter 3rd edition plastics and currently Salamanders).

Now, probably, we won't see the release of new models in the old scale. So maybe in 10 years time 'regular' space marines might be effectively phased out. But right now, there's a SM Codex coming out with full rules for all the old regular space marines, so they're going to be selling them for the next 3-5 years, and Primaris Marines won't be super functional as a complete army for a long time to come.

You really take every opportunity to push the whole "Old marines are going to be phased out", don't you? There is zero evidence that GW is going to do it. You should never take a character's perception of events either as truth or at face value.

Until GW/BL/FW actually do this, I think that's enough on this for now.
