Hi everyone!

Me and my friend are pretty new to 40k and will attend a local tournament in November.
The tournament rules: Two players, total of 2500 pts (1200pts from each player and 100 to use freely)
I'm playing nids and my friend chaos space marines.

My question is this: Can we get some tips when it comes to the composition of the two army's so they match. I don't think we stand a chance against the more experienced players but you never know.

Thank you for the help! Happy gaming

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Massed first turn charge seems like the way to go, you could take Trygons and Genestealer swarms for some nasty first turn charges and your friend could take Terminators (Meltas + Power Fists), a Sorceror to Warptime them into melta range and 4" charge range and some Raptors to spam Plasma.
To support a mass turn one charge you'll need some big, ranged units. I'm not too sure about Nids but your chaos friend could take Predators or FW dreadnoughts + a Lord for some long ranged fire power with re-rolls to hit. With chaos bringing far more heavy support units, I'd suggest you take lots of troops (Genestealers or Gaunts with Synapse creatures) for turn 1 screaning, objective holding and swarming enemy units (you can quite easily make multi charges and hold up several units).

Hope this helps.

This would probably be better asked in the 40K general discussion area. This area's really for discussing the rules.

You might be able to get a mod to move the thread, or just copy your text and post it in a new thread in the 40k general forum.

One thing you might want to mention if there are any units in particular that you or your friend like to play, so that people could try to suggest lists that include those.

You should play to your streangths. I do not know what that is for chaos, as they have a lot of diversaty within them.

Nids come with some restriction and some streangts. You -will- have a problem with having 1200 point of nids in a 2400 game, and that is smart ranged opponents will shoot down your synapse. After that you will have problems.

You can midigate this by units that do not need synapse. One model units, tyranid warriors and genstealers bypass all of this. Tyranid primes and Forge World Malanthropes are both caracters (hard to target) with less then 10 wounds that provide synapse.

While nids do have some good long ranged guns, close combat is where your streanght lies. Nids are one of the best CC armies. So make sure you bring mellee, and make shure your partner supports your mellee in some way.
