Hello,

I've recently taken stock of how much space marine stuff I have and am looking to trim down a bit.

How many of these models do you keep around for average games? - How many tacticals is too many?

I currently have lots of the following:
25 assault marines
29 tacticals with heavy weapons
24 Bolter tacticals
49 tacticals with no weapons (plenty of bits though)
9'centurions
33 terminators
20 bikes
3 contemptor dreadnoughts

Thanks

Depending on your budget and your interests I'd stick to the following rule: if you have so many duplicates of something that you will never realistically field them, ditch them.

At a glance I don't see anything you couldn't field, but I've no idea of the interest in your play style. If you have an idea for your army or chapter and it will never use bikes, then ditch them. I see nothing you couldn't take in a game for a laugh. I assume the 29 heavy weapon guys are different weapons? Did you build any of your models to some stupid outdated net-spam list? That could be a reason to ditch some more. If you have 29 grav cannons - yeah, ditch some of them.

I think you coult safely ditch 23 terminators, 6 centurions, 10 assault marines, 14 bikes, 1 dread. Use the cash to get some transports and predators.

Thanks for the replies.

I have lots of other things, the list was things that I seem to have an abundance of.

I was trying to think why I'd want 40 terminators, as I'm awful at getting rid of things .

I'm from the future. The future of space

I like smaller model count games, so I tend to make a platoon of something plus some support and then move on to the next thing. I'm having a great time playing 30 power level games, for example. And breaking the rules on minimum squad size so each player has more maneuver elements without increasing the model count. Like how Age of Sigmar Skirmish makes each model act as an individual unit.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

You have just over a single battle company's worth of marines. Nowhere close to enough. Most people get to three or four companies before thinking it's too much

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Triple digits in tacticals might be too many, but also might be amazing instead.

I own 120 fire warriors, and I painted them all to an absurdly high standard.

Never enough models, you must have the biggest army ever

Nice! A solid reinforced company, there.

I ahve... 35. But to be fair, 15 of them are terminators, so they count as double, so I can say I have 50

If you're looking to keep a core and move on to a new project then a battle company + about a demi company of support should do you fine.

If it's just the case that you have an odd balance - add to the force where you look short.

There's never enough unless you have a chapters and then previously said, there's always successor chapters to

One of my friends, who has been collecting for twenty-odd years, has over three chapters worth of marines.

He's already planning on getting primaris to add to them
