More power to ya'!
See I was on the fence whether or not I should do Cadian or Catachan. I'm actually not a hundred percent sure if I shouldn't just switch over from Cadian and sell them off to get Catachan.
Gotta have that Rambo army and all that heh.

As someone a little new to the imperial guard, is there any difference gameplay wise to the different versions? Or are they all the same?

As far as im aware its all the same rules, except back in 3rd edition where catachans were their own thing.

Actually, currently Catachans are one of the best regiments in the IG due to the way regiment keywords work. Harker's reroll is one of the best special abilities available and it only applies to Catachan units.

Than I think I may ditch Cadia, considering.. Well it's not in the best of shape in lore from last I heard (Not fully up to date on the lore)

You can always "pretend" your Cadians are Catachan, provided your opponent is fine with it. If the new regiment keyword system in the index is any indication of what is to come, we may see each regiment getting neat stuff in the upcoming codex. So it might be wise to wait for that to drop. I have a feeling Catachans are going to be amazing though no matter what. I can definitely see them having superior cover saves, being the guerrilla fighters they are. Not only that, they have more special characters than any other regiment. Harker, Straken, Marbo etc. Cadians have Pask who is awesome, but Kell is dead, Creed is in Trazyn's pokeball.

Back in the day, Catachans were by far my favourite part of 40k. I loved how it used to work, where you bought the IG book and then you could buy the slimmer books to build your subfaction, like the Catachans.

Too awesome.

If I ever go back to Imperial Guard i'd do Catachans for sure! I've also got that old codex :-) I think it was the lack of decent plastics for them that stalled my interest but now with so many aftermarket businesses i'd hope we could put together some sweet Cat guys!

If I ever did Catachans I'd have to go with cool alternate models (the GW ones are horrid), perhaps something like Chindits modified for 40K. That and you'd need zero tanks, all sentinels, some "huey" stand in air support. Maybe do up some river boats to act as Chimeras (but only on water portions of a board). Go full Vietnam or Malaya style.

I like Catachans alot. Though honestly, I like everything but Cadians at this point. Usually it is Vostrayans and Catachans competing for my favorite regiment slot though.

I almost bought some Catachans a while back to convert into R&H models, but I ended up splitting deathwatch overkill box with someone and using GSC models instead. Still kinda want some Catachans to go with it though.

I beg to differ. Only the Infantry squad is in a bad shape. The command squad and heavy weapon teams are state of the art.

@OP:
You want some 80s action on the battlefield? Go and get yourself some Schwarzenegger & Stallone dudes. Catachans are the best faction in 40K and GW should be ashamed of themselves in propagating their obscene power armour fetish to the gaming community. Space Marines are nice but enough is enough. Show some love to the experts of jungle warfare. Pump that iron, soldier!

Pro tip to painting Catachans:
Watch Predator, Apocalypse now, Rambo, Platoon or Tropic Thunder while you are applying your camo scheme to your models. Helps immensely to get in the mood.

So "Get to da Choppa!" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xs_OacEq2Sk) and buy some Catachans.

They are all the same.

Cadian, Catachan, Vostroyan, Valhallan, Steel Legion, etc.

Only DKoK and Elysians are unique.

However, note that Cadians have Pask and Catachans have Harker. Harker is, by pretty much all metrics, better than Pask.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

Which they will, whenever the book comes out. Catachans will probably end up with the RG tactic.

I would also recommend playing Broforce and listening to it's theme while playing. You'll be 300% more rambo and all your minis will spontaniously turn into Marbo.

I agree. The Catachan Command Squad is very very good. Just look at this dude.

A work of art. You can see in his eyes the horrors he has witness.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

It's an army full of Rambos. What's not to love? Very few humanoids are getting armour saves on abs alone.

Gosh dang that's so true. The smaller Catachans get a better save than the larger Orks just because of how buff they are. Dangit, now I want a Catachan army to go with my Tallarn.

As of right now I'm thinking about re-doing some of my Catachans as well. I have 60 (80? Back when boxes were 20€ or so for twenty even wee me could buy several) of the little lunks.

The heads and torsi in the command squad and HWT seem good, but the arms still off, is that right? I don't own those models (yet). What arm bits would work? Marauders/horsemen, Blood Reavers? Third party? Scouts? Arcanites?! Are the newer models fully in the same wonky scale?

I'll have to find a good Simple Green alternative here in Germany and then I'll see which models are even salvageable to the standard I want today. Turning them into Sergeant Stone-like gland warriors with implants and drug injectors might help to cover parts damaged by enthusiastic gluing.

Looking for a Skaven Doomwheel banner to repair my Nurgle knights.
