Hello everyone. Online I go by Acimal, I am currently playing WH40K Astra Militarium and decided to join Dakka Dakka in hopes of being able to improve my painting skills. I don't have the chance to play often because I am a stay at home father for now but I do have time to paint. I want to be able to make my army look nice. I have an artistic background and skills in technology so I know that there are always ways to improve my skills. I'm looking forward to meeting some new friends that are like minded here in the spirit of wargaming. WRAAAGH!

Hey there!
I can relate heh, I half joined this forum myself to improve my painting, I'm not too amazing as it is, but people want to buy paint jobs from me so who knows, maybe I'm better than I think.
Still garbage at doing edge highlights though heh.

So from one Grumpy Tau, I welcome ya' to this forum

Haha I just did my first attempt at edge highlights the other day xD. I don't like them and I think I can do much better then what I did.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

That's not too bad actually, see I prefer to do it the cheating way and dry brush the ever loving hell out of minis and then dunk them in a shade to blend in the less pleasant looking areas. (Hooray for an understanding of colours!)

This is an odd question, but how do you base your dudes? I noticed the snowy bits, and thought it looked interesting, and I'm all about cost efficiency when I base things after all

Haha thanks. Sorry I didn't answer back sooner ive been busy with my little one.

For the basing I set down a coat of cheap pva glue and layed a snow basing powder on it, then sealed it with another layer of pva glue. I got the power from an art store for like 2 bucks a bag and hanvent finished a bag yet.

Some of my models have small stones on the base that I found in my yard and cleaned up. Glued them on with pva glue and used a really thin light blue to kinda wash them for the ice effect. Then drybrushed white all over the top. And sealed them with pva glue again.

I'm not sure if its relevant but where I can I use a paint from the FolkArt brand. Its a cheaper Acryllic paint from a store like Walmart or any art store for about 1.30 per 20z bottle. I use on the basing and terrain to save the nicer paints for models. Helps make my paint last longer and save some money.
