As Monday inexorably dawns upon us, let's take a moment to remind ourselves of the important things in life ... Like Warhammer ... So here's a brand new Glacial Geek Battle Report to help us remember the important things ... Like Warhammer! https://youtu.be/3EzyMebnNt0 This week my Dark Angels take on the Blood Angels! Bad blood already existed between the two forces. They had clashed before and, while both fought for the Emperor and Mankind, neither really trusted the other. The Blood Angels felt the Dark Angels were not to be trusted and the Dark Angels felt similarly of their Sanguinary brothers. So when the two forces met unexpectedly on a planet, neither felt chatty and neither felt like answering to the other. Soon the bad blood boiled and both sides took up arms to settle the score. Will the Sons of Sanguinius force the answers they want out of their secretive brothers, or will the Unforgiven keep their secrets? Watch and find out!

Why would you risk Az so early in the game?

on the other hand Nobz they decided it was in the best interest of ork society that they "Go Green" as such they specifically modified their warbikes to not make giant smoke, dust, grit, clouds. Instead they are all about driving with clean air, one might say their bikes Gak out rainbows.

Was that a Forge World Knight? That 4++ save was tough - it was a fire sponge for two turns.

Guess Azrael needs to attend a Range Safety Briefing and re-take the handling test on that combi-weapon...

Enjoyable Bat Rep as always,

Okay, first off, let me say that that was a pretty awesome game overall. Two lists that were both equally crazy, and the dice seemed overall very even and not too one-sided unlike some of your other reports. I did notice a couple of things that might or might not have been mistakes. One of them was the Knight Atropos charging the scouts on the top floor. I didn't think vehicles could charge units on upper floors because they can't actually move up there and could not end up within an inch of the base. Maybe it just has to be the body of the thing that has to be within an inch, I guess, and when you're as tall as a Knight...anyway. The other was the reserves. I thought you had to bring them in no later than turn 3 or they are destroyed. Did the ITC overrule that or something in their rules? I'm curious because my local tournament scene uses ITC rules.

As for Azrael, I'll just say this: You never risk him that way. Ever. Except perhaps in dire emergencies such as needing to kill one last thing on the final turn or something. He's such a lynchpin character for Dark Angels and way too valuable and powerful to risk losing him to a flubbed roll. Especially when he's -1 to hit. Sure you get rerolls, but as we saw the stereo doomfart can still happen. You would have crushed your opponent if you had kept Azrael alive. Lesson learned, I guess, right?

I did like both lists and will definitely look into building a Dark Angels list along those lines for my own tournament outings.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

Phil I usually enjoy your batreps except when you treat Azrael like that! AAAAAZZZZRAAAEEELLL!LLL!LL!L!L!L!L!L!!!

Question for ya Phil: Have you used any of the Assassins other than the vindicare? I just recently acquired them and am looking to try them out in various Dark Angel builds. Quite a few lists I've been seeing pop up use different ones. Just curious on your experience this edition.

Yeah ... Azrael will be sorely missed ... Until the next time I field him ;-)

I keep telling myself I won't overcharge him any more ... And then hitting on 2s and rerolling makes lulls me into a false sense of security ... I've blown him up in 4 games so far this edition ;-)

@ZergSmasher - Yeah we flubbed the coming in by turn three thing, but the knight was tall enough (and I was close enough to the edge) that he could get within an inch of my model so he didn't need to move up a level which is what is prohibited for vehicles.

@Widied - I have run the Vindicare, the Culexus, and the Eversor. I am a fan of all three! They all do their jobs well and got a nice price drop in 8th edition so they become a good choice now. I like the Eversor for charging into units my opponent has dug in in the back line and wreaking havoc :-D
