I was contacted by one of my long-time clients to do a platoon of Soviet cavalry for Flames of War...but with a little twist. As an homage to Orwell's Animal Farm, he wanted to include some pigs on the stands - a clever in-joke and something right up my alley.

They look amazing, and loving the pigs and indeed the reference there.

Bases are wonderful, guessing just fine grit painted and dry brushed, but may one ask what colours you have used?

One of the best book ever. Like those tiny pigs ushering the horses, really looks funny. One of them should wear a soviet distinctive element the give a clue to anyone not aware of the joke, so they might find by themselves.

What's more the paint work is very nice to stare at.

40k: Necrons/Imperial Guard/ Space marines
Bolt Action: Germany/ USA
Project Z.

"The Dakka Dive Bar is the only place you'll hear what's really going on in the underhive. Sure you might not find a good amasec but they grill a mean groxburger. Just watch for ratlings being thrown through windows and you'll be alright." Ciaphas Cain, probably.

I'm interested in knowing the colors too. Can't help laughing when I see the pic though, that client of yours sounds very interesting

They are Flames of War I believe. Always liked the soviet cavalry army for that game. Nice job with these!

Very nice. I think I would have had one base with the pig at the front to represent Snowball, and the other at the rear to represent Napoleon. Still looks good though

I looked into it a little bit more, and I think those miniatures are Peter Pig WWI Russian Cavalry (which would probably be the same as WWII Russian Cavalry )

They're a mixture of earthen colors applied sporadically throughout the base rather than one uniform color, then slowly melded together with subsequent highlights. The wash of Vallejo European Dirt ties it together.

Tragically the pigs aren't wearing little commissar hats :(

Superb work though, I can never understand how people paint at this scale when I struggle with GW's mad 'heroic' scale!
