... So here we go again..

Arsenal/Leicester was good last night and although I could've done without the last minute equaliser in the Watford/Liverpool game, cannot deny it was a hell of a game.

Rooney scores on his return for Everton.....

.. but that Chelsea result ..?! Don't think anyone saw that one happening.

I'll take that, just 29 points until safety!

Lost one nil at Everton, but at least the Potters didn't disgrace themselves.
Good scoring all over the leagues today.

If I'm being honest, it's hard to muster any enthusiasm for the PL, or football in general, these days.

The greed, the corruption, Sepp Blatter, the crazy amounts of money swirling in the game etc etc

I'm 50/50 on taking in an interest in the new season.

None of those are concerned for those of us supporting lower league sides - though we serve our own penance. Pick some local no hoppers and have fun with cheap tickets, camaraderie, almost-empty uncovered stadia, and an eternity of almost achieving something.

Good point. I'm leaning heavily towards lower league football these days.

Being a Blackburn Rovers fan, I'm already at that stage. Going to watch Oxford Utd Vs Rovers on November. That'll be fun. The Kassam Stadium only has three sides...

Good to see someone with some taste and class on this site. Hoping to make it over for a Swans game this season, long way to go so hope its worth it!

Gonna be glorious if we win this weekend but not sure if I can do another year of getting up at three in the morning to watch games.

So it's early days, we don't have lots of information, anything can happen in football and the transfer window hasn't even closed. Time for some wild speculations!

I think it's going to be either of the Manchester teams. City could be argued to have the best squad, but their defence and keeper are still awful. United look like the real deal. Pogba and Mkhitaryan look in sync at last and Lukaku is the player they needed to finish off middling to lower teams.

I'll be surprised if Chelsea don't have a new manager before next season.

Arsenal are going to plod along nicely, probably pick up one of the cups.

Liverpool fans will once again bang on about this being their year. Until it isn't and then we get a few months of respite before they do it all over again.

Spurs will once again completely bottle it after February.

Everton and West Ham might make UEFA (outside chance of Everton making Champion's League).

Without Siggurdsson, Swansea are going down.

Think this could be the worst season for Stoke since we joined the Premier League. Probably fighting for survival until the last day of the season. I don't think we'll go down, but Sparky probably won't be with us next year.

Henry, you must be happy with the signing of Jese though? If anyone can get the best out of a once very promising player, it's Mark Hughes. If Jese can find his feet he'll be a better striker than Aunatavich (sp?) ever was.

Blimey, I don't check Oatcake for a day and we sign a Champions League winner.
However.... historic knee injury and a guy who's been out of favour for a few seasons. It's another gamble.

Berahino is yet to settle (if he even will); Bojan's fitness is still hit and miss; our captain isn't the player he used to be (with Zouma and Martins Indi he's going to struggle for game time this year); we're relying on a 36 year old gangly freak to be our point man (and what a bloody lovely gangly freak he is too); our left back too frequently goes off wandering with the butterflies; our keeper has missed a full year of competitive play; our midfield is packed full of players the wrong side of 30; and Shaqiri, god bless him, our most important player, can sometimes get frustrated with the responsibility of pulling the team along with him and go missing for whole matches.

There's are positives in there - Martins Indi, Zouma and Butland should keep it together at back; those old midfielders, Allen, Adams, Ireland and Fletcher, are all solid playmakers; Shaqiri can still terrorise most teams when he's got one on him.

There's some new blood to look at and some players who need to step up a gear after their bedding in season (Imbula and Sobhi).

We've got a rough start to the season and our run in at the end is not very friendly either. I think we're going to struggle the whole way this year.

I think you are being a little pessimistic mate to be honest. If you guys can be strong at Home and scrape a few good wins away against the likes of Swansea, Huddersfield, Brighton etc then my prediction is going 12-14th, possibly higher depending on the teams around you.

As for my beloved Blackburn, I think we'll do well to finish Top 10 in League One this year...

Man Utd look competent.

Chelsea winning the league every other year it seems.

Arsenal...still squeaky bum time. Lacazette is good but defense is still shocking. I'm keeping an eye on whether Sanchez leaves.

Tottenham...not sure how they'll cope with being at Wembley for home games. Reasonably well I imagine.

City...arguably best squad but keeper and defence, wow.

Liverpool...could have done without that whole Van Dyke and now Coutinho stuff.

Passing interest this season for me I think. I'm still surprised Neymar switched to PSG.

Eh Swansea don't have to be the best team.

They just have to be the 4th worse.

But a lot of fans aren't that happy with the American owners, they are accusing them of sucking money out of the club, which wouldn't be the first time it's happened at Swansea. We have an interesting history in that regard.

Frozocrone, surprised Neymar made the switch to PSG? If I was offered £515,000 a week *after* tax, I'd play anywhere. Besides, Barca are a shadow of there former selves. Clubs like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG and even Man City are arguably better prospects at this point in time.

I wouldn't be so sure about Bayern. Ancelotti hasn't found a system that really works. A 4231 is a sort of emergency fallback but some times things just don't work out. He eased of on aggressive pressing which allowed them to play with a high defensive line and push opponents back. The team isn't used to having so much space between the lines and it shows when their press doesn't get them the ball back. In those cases the defence looks more fragile that it should.

As a whole they played better than the sum of the team's parts under Guardiola (the first half the last CL game against Atletico was a magnificent display of how they were able to dismantle one of the best defences in the world and make them look like an amateur team, even if they didn't score enough) and they were able to fluidly adjust their system/formation multiple times mid-game depending on what their opponents did. While Ancelotti has "improved" Thiago by giving him more freedom (and putting him in Müller's spot) the whole team is not in sync and that Pep-era flexibility and consistently high performance is gone (for now).

The team also still relies on two injury prone wingers and has no real backup striker (also way too many injuries overall).

Barcelona did turn it around against PSG last year though but I'm inclined to agree, with the exception of Bayern Munich. Ancelotti doesn't seem to have them figured out just yet (and losing figures like Lahm and Alonso is a blow in itself).

Anyway, Man Utd dominating again. Rooting for Tottenham tomorrow (but I think Conte will have kicked Chelsea up the backside, even if they've lost Matic and Costa).

Watching Stoke and Arsenal right now. Wanting Stoke to win. Closet Tottenham fan (not really), but I'm entertained by all the crap that is 'WENGER OUT' whenever there's no win.

EDIT: Wenger Out memes incoming

Insert obligatory:
Goarrn Stoke!

There's something special about beating those who've looked down their noses at use since we joined the league, and none more special than Arsenal.

Watching Gerrard and Keown on BT actually complaining that the linesman got the offside decision correct. Not just complaining but outright declaring that even thought the linesman was correct he got the decision wrong. Absolutely unbelievable.

There should always be an advantage to the striker if in doubt, but if the linesman was sure he made the right decision, then he should be given credit.

I'm somewhat amused that Gerrard and Keown are trying to argue the linesman is guessing. Video ref would have completely shut them down (and maybe given a few more decisions).

Props to Stoke though, I was able to enjoy AFT ranting because of them

I told you. Jese might just be what you need. What with the mighty Rovers picking up thier first win against a tricky Bradford side at Valley Parade, seems like we both had a good weekend

Also, because I don't have BT sport, I'll have to find that but of Gerrard and Keown complaining about an official getting a decision correct. That sounds brilliant....

Happy to take 3 points -- finally ! -- from Palace, been a bogey team for far too long.

Was a good time for you to play palace. They don't look in a healthy place right now.

Huddersfield are off to a great start. They're going to get their proper welcome to the top tier at some point so I hope they can keep this up for a good run. Newcastle on the other hand are in danger of looking like relegation fodder already.

Now come on Spurs, stuff Chelski!

Anybody wanting to make a bet on top four/bottom three?
I'm going:
Man U / Man City / Chelsea / Spurs

B&H / Newcastle / and... haven't decided yet. Someone out of Bournemouth, Swansea, Palace - I think it could be quite tight among the bottom of the middle pack teams.

Top four in no particular order

Man City / Chelsea / Tottenham Spurs / Man Utd

Bottom three:

Newcastle / Brighton / Crystal Palace

Tempted to put in Liverpool for Top 4 too. Don't fancy Arsenal for top 4. Yes, Lacazette is a good signing for them but they need defensive midfielders and Europa won't help them.

I honestly think playing at Wembley will be an albatross around their necks. For some unknown reason, their record there is pretty poor, and that will cost them this season.

And on another note, Arsenal fan TV is a joy to watch as always
