I loved the latest instalment in the Conjuring universe. It had all the right elements to make a proper horror story; scary antagonist, characters you actually care about, atmosphere and suspense and a little bit of gore but not too much. And it lead us right up to the previous movies in a satisfactiory manner. Or to put it another way, it's a prequel done right. Oh, and it expands the universe nicely. Now I'll wait patiently for The Nun next year.

I watched creation last night and absolutely loved it. I still have yet to see conjuring 2 so I'm sure there are some references that went over my head. Planning on marathoning them shortly, I don't much remember Annabelle or the first movie.

I liked the Conjuring a lot, but the Conjuring II less so. Annabelle one was pretty dull. Not sure I even want to bother with the sequel.

Yeah, I started out liking the Conjuring (though not as much as Insidious), felt the Conjuring 2 was not so hot, and disliked Annabelle. When I saw Annabelle 2, I could only ask why? The trailers made it look like it was rehashing a lot of cliché devices and jump scares.

Good to hear that it may be a turnaround, though!

I consider myself a fan of mediocre and cheap horror films, and even for me Annabelle was bad.

The first Annabelle movie wasn't great but I thought it was passable at least. I tend to go by the atmosphere generated by the movie, and its atmosphere was ok. Incidentally, that's why I think the first woman in black movie is one of the best horror movies this decade; it's atmosphere is intense.

Totally agree with both points- WIB was great and Annabelle was not :-)

I definitely liked Woman in Black, though I think it could have been a much better movie with some more well timed creepiness but it certainly had atmosphere.

I thought The Conjuring looked really lame, but I saw it anyway. It turned out to be quite good.

So, then The Conjuring 2 came out. I again thought it looked kind of like crap, but one day I had nothing going so saw it, and again it was pretty good.

So now I am wondering about Annabelle. I saw the trailer during The Dark Tower, and frankly it looks like 90 minutes of jump scenes. Wondering if I should see it anyway, given the franchise's history. I didn't see whatever the previous doll movie was.

I'm happy to report that Annebelle 2 doesn't rely solely on jump scares, but I can't give too much away without spoiling it.

Well, I'm a total sucker for horror movies, so I'm in.

Got to keep up the variety! Can't be all Zombies/Slasher all the time. Need some hokey supernatural nonsense chucked in as well.

I'm not going to re-read the lunacy that is the last few pages of this thread, but I'd be very surprised if anyone actually said that. Even that one guy banging on about how relatively difficult it might be for an Inquisitor to acquire power armour, I don't think even that guy said that.

Yes. I thought he did fairly well.
