This last year GW have stepped their game up so much that I'm getting sort of stressed out because there's so much stuff I want to buy. Shadow Wars, Dark Imperium, and all the Primaris stuff for 40k were all must-buys to me. As was all the new Tzeentch stuff for AoS. And as for upcoming... The new allies system in AoS combined with new, smaller "start collecting"-ish boxes for smaller factions that can now be easily allied, presumably Cthulh Elves before the end of the year, and on top of all this we're getting the new Necromunda soon, my favourite game of all time... even if I had the money to buy all is there's no way I could paint it all. I've recently sold off a ton of stuff that I couldn't realistically get to, but there's so much I want coming up that I want to paint and play, not just let sit in a corner. Feels like getting smothered by an embarrassment of riches. Dakka?

Seriously? First world problems....

Some things stress me out. An abundance of new shiny toys is not one of them.

Yeah, I just bought dark imperium. And now that Necromunda is confirmed and with plastic gangs I 100% regret buying into 40k 8th. The models for 40k are great but they don't have a lot of personality and I prefer smaller games anyways. So yeah I'm kind of overwhelmed with things. I got silver tower, deathwatch overkill, blood bowl, 40k 8th and a mounting pile of bare plastic that I don't have the time or energy to paint.

I'm glad GW is belting out so many good releases. But I think nowadays you gotta think a lot harder about what you want to buy into. Especially cause a lot of these games start at 100 bucks minimum.

I didn't get into shadow wars though because it felt boring and generic. I just didn't like the setting, to me that is very important in making a game interesting.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Not stressed out, just sad that I can't buy it all: I want to buy some FW renegade militia for NL cultists, I want to buy a FW jetbike for my biker sorcerer, I want to buy Mortarian when he comes out and I just bought a Fire Raptor. Also, since I'm on holiday, my friends are trying to get me to go out drinking with them but I just look at my balance, think of the models I want to buy and then think of the cost of a taxi (why didn't I learn to drive sooner!) and drinks and so I just stay at home.

(This degree better be worth it so I can buy [u]all[u] the GW/FW models)

No I am not stressed out. Am I disappointed I can't buy everything? Yes. Knowing that I might not be able to buy some of them because of GW making artificial demand? Yes. I don't have all that money, it needs to go to other things.

I would say disappointed, or sad but not stressed over it.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

I think stress might be a bit much, but I really relate to the OP. I've been busy painting my IG for 8th, and then the primaris look great, and Necromunda should be cool...

It's just frustrating to have so many fantastic options, and such limited hobby/gaming time.

fortunately no, I have found the overwhelming majority of their new products to be complete garbage. I am impressed with what I have seen with shadow war, and some stuff is not too bad. but hey, "one mans trash is anothers treasure, soo"

Yeah i can relate. I am dreading i wont have enough money in time to buy the boxed games i am missing before they go out of print.
And with Necromunda announced there is more.

And i also want to keep up with their made to order stuff which i feel may come with necromunda. Usually i buy some old school minis from ebay a couple times a month but i have to cut out all that now.

And about painting it, well.. lets not talk about that

I can't keep up. Deathwatch, then Thousand Sons, then Shadow War (mostly for the terrain), then Dark Imperium. I have a couple of years worth of painting ahead of me even if I buy nothing else, but I want to! lol. I guess I'm a plastic crack addict..

I probably won't buy the new Necromunda unless it has some new industrial terrain. Luckily, I never got into Fantasy or AOS.

While I'm not stressing out or anything, I can't keep up with all the cool new stuff GW is putting out. I'm already tapped out on my hobby budget for this pay cycle, and I'm like 4 days into it. Gotta wait a whole month before I can really think about buying more plastic crack.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):

No, not at all. Maybe because I'm not interested in 99% GW releases. I don't play Sigmar at all and as for 40k...Primaris? meh. Nurgle? Meh. Necromunda? Meh. Thousand sons and Guilliman? Again, meh. The last release I was actually interested in was Shadow War. Which costed like 40 euros total. I could say that I'm actually nearing to the point where I have everything that interests me

I went overboard this weekend on my GW purchases, but the local FLGS was having a "summer clearance" to make room for new stuff coming - most of the stuff I bought was slow-selling 7E stuff that was over 50% off (including the prior 7E starter set). Though I did pick up the full 8E rulebook and codex datacards.

I'll be watching for the new Necromunda stuff (since my son likes Shadow War so much) and have my eyes open for the new Adeptus Titanicus, but for 40K, I'm overstocked for some time to come and neither the Primaris or Deathguard releases have (luckily) caught my interests.

If we see some new Tyranid or Tau stuff though, I may be doomed...

It never ends well

This really depends. If I just wanted to paint a particular model then move on to something else, then buying the new shinies is all good and fine. Personally, however, I'm a slow painter and there's no way I could get several new armies a year painted unless I did a really slap-dash job of it.

In the early days of Rogue Trader, though, painting random stuff was fun and kept me occupied, even if I never did get a decent force of anything. It's one way to enjoy the hobby and not get bored painting 100 green space marines in a row.

My current bugaboo is all the Kickstarter stuff I backed and haven't gotten around to yet. The problem with KS is by the time you finally get your stuff you've probably lost interest after 1 1/2 years (or more!) have passed.

Yeah first world problems...

I'd love to do some HH plastics, no time, no space to put them.
Bought a pile of Chaos Cultists 2 years ago, and GS cultists a year back. Might get around to painting them someday. Might.
Love to play some Shadow War or 8th edition, no time, no energy to learn.
Excited by Newcromunda, 50/50 odds at best of my getting it.

So yeah, I am worn out. Spending my time painting metal because it doesn't require assembly or invite conversion like other materials do. So I can just get started.

I think I understand what you mean OP. So much comes out that you want but you can't decide what to buy because you're scared what you don't choose will go OOP.

The pace of releases was never the problem for me - it's the price. £35 for 10 Space Marines?

^And that's the ticket to why it's easy to not be stressed. GW has been making a lot of strides lately and occasionally they release a quality product at a reasonable price. However, the comically overpriced stuff is quite easy to ignore.

The only thing getting stressed is my wallet and possibly my assembly/painting queue.
I agree this is a rather 1st world problem.
I just wish there was some means of knowing what product will stick around for a time and what ones are limited in manufacture.
All I can say is thank goodness Fantasy Flight Games has slowed down a bit or I would be sunk.

Nope. Every time there's something exciting and new, I push myself to paint something exciting I already have. I still occasionally buy new stuff, but have years of collection to chew through, and by that point, if there was some hot new model, I can probably find it used and for cheaper.

Oh, speaking of which, yeah, cash. Outside of core boxes that are very nice deals, I almost never buy GW new. Seriously, one little character, or a week of food, or a skirmish scale boxed set, a board game expansion, or a decent budget for a night out? IDK who buys GW's characters, but entertainment, real expenses, and better offers on toys all have priority over one extra-fancy space marine or w/e.

No stress here but I get what the OP is saying. They have been knocking it out of the park lately but they still do some craziness too.

For example, if that new chaplain, which I really like, had been even $20 I would have probably picked one up. Instead, because I had bought into 2 dark imperium sets as pretty much my entire 8th edition investment, I converted a chaplain from one of the LTs.

I'm actually more concerned----like those daily Duncan painting videos----about how long GW can keep this up. It's like they're sprinting a marathon.

You just need to reconcile yourself with the fact that you'll always have more hobby ideas/desires than you'll realistically ever have time for, so get disciplined and restrict yourself. Better to have a few things you can devote adequate time and money to than a little bit of this and that; ooh and some of that, but what about this? etc.

Not stressed, but most certainly frustrated.

Basically things are being released and changing so quickly that it has created (for me) great uncertainty. There's no stability, no time to absorb the new releases / changes, no predictability.

This has led me to dramatically reduce my purchasing - to near zero, because I have no confidence that what I purchase will even be usable two, three months down the road. Or if something better will come.

Nothing came out now that I need to get, but there are still models that I want that are out there. And I'm sure my armies' time will come for more stuff. I really want to just focus on my painting queue, it is overwhelming getting back into it after 5 months and then another month later on. And the indexes straight into codexes aren't helping.
