Monstrously Massive Big Mutant






I've been looking at making a melee centric army (My chaos army is not entirely melee obviously, but at least half of it is.) and I was wondering, would using Chosen be a viable option in place of Khorne Beserkers? I would rather not dish out additional money for a box of beserkers, but 8 of my 10 Chosen are kited out with Power Fists, Duel Lightning Claws, etc.

They're the same point cost in-game, by the by.

Sure -

You can boost them depending how you want to mark them:

Fury of Khorne
Endless Cacophony
Excess of Violence

And even add one of these on top:

VotLW (Any)
Forward Operatives (I like this one most) (Alpha)
In Midnight Clad (Night Lords)

Miasma and Delightful Agonies would also be great durability spells.

Best use of Chosen is really to man special weapons and pop anything that's in range. A unit full of lightning claws and fist should be a terminator squad, chosen lack the staying power compared to chosen.

If you want to use your chosen as zerkers, as long as your opponent is cool with it, why not.

A unit full of special weapons should be Havocs. Why are you paying for an extra attack when you put guns on them?

Because if they're taking special weapons they will be up closer, the extra attack comes in handy

OP I would just use them as Berzerkers they are much better in every way

Problem with Chosen is that Havocs bring more special weapons for cheaper, while Cult Marines can do what you want to do with them better (and cheaper). Their only real perk last time was due to there not being a way to bring Havocs as compulsory troops while Chosen, for a VotLW tax, could be shifted to Troops (they're more expensive than CSM, but brought more special weapons per point spent). Before that, they had infiltrate, which gave them a niche that no other unit in the game fulfilled.

And don't even get me started on the 3.5 Chosen, which could have been anything from a mass squad of sorcerors (each one casting his own spell) to being literally uberzerkers in Terminator Armor.

I agree with others that you probably should just use them as Zerks and call it a day.

Well I think the benefit of Chosen now is greater access to specialist CC weapons, while being able to take spare bodies in a way that Terminators would have a hard time with. But yes, it's hard to justify next to Berzerkers otherwise.

I use to run Khorne Berserker Terminators with twin lightning claws.

"Yolo" was probably the most appropriate term.

Problem, as always with chosen is cost and lack of specialization. If you want CC take berserkers or warp talons. If you want special weapons just take havoks.

Why not possessed ? They seem to be a good unit with the extra wound and the inv and the -2 save D3 attacks wound on 3s

2000 6000 with Reaver Titan guard 2k
2500 (imperial force)
2500 (trimming down in 8th)
TS 30k at 5k points
