So, I'm a long time Ork player, but I really like the look and the lore behind the new Primaris marines. To wit, I've decided to start a Primaris Space Marine force.

So I really like the Iron Hands, and I'm even prepared to do some modeling to play them, but I've run into a bit of a quagmire, lore-wise. In my research, it appears that Iron Hands don't have Chaplains, and that's my favorite model in the PSM line. Instead, they have their Iron Fathers, who are like Apothecary/Chaplain/Techmarines. Clearly there is no such unit in the game, which makes me unclear as to how to proceed. I would say "screw it" and call a chaplain an iron father, but there's the matter of having no Rosarius and a servo-pack. Oh, and it makes little sense for a Primaris marine to have ascended so far in the IH hierarchy, even in 100 years.

So I'm left with two options, I think:

1. Play Iron Hands, but don't use Chaplains at all.

2. Create a new Primaris chapter made of the scions of Ferrus Manus, and run them like a more codex-compliant chapter.

I'm leaning toward #2, honestly. I have an idea for a Primaris force that remembers their Primarch, and isn't quite as 'cyborg'd out compared to their smaller brethren. I'm thinking a dull grey with a black or gold trim, with silver gauntlets to honor their Primarch. To them, those close ties with the Mechanicum haven't cemented quite right, so their ideology is more like what it was at the time of the Great Crusade.

Anyways, what do you guys think? Are Iron Hands handcuffed by the fluff now that there are no new rules for Iron Fathers?

Iron Hands do have chaplains so you're fine. That said I'd go with your own successor anyway.

Since some of the primaris characters share the same profile as their normal counterpart, just run a Techmarine as your HQ and model him as a Primaris. It's not ideal, as he probably can't share transports with your Primaris Marines for the time being (he still technically isn't a Primaris model so until something new comes along he's out of luck) but his job probably means he won't have to.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.
