The rules seem good, but what model would be good to use? A warpsmith? a chaos-ified mechanicus model? Wait for a potential FW release?

Somewhere.

A tech-priest/Chaos Marine of your choice kitbash is likely the easiest way to get them for now.

This is the model those rules were written to represent..

No problem, I don't think it's a particularly well known or popular sculpt.

I've gone backwards and forwards on whether I even like it or not since it was first previewed, but I think I may look at either a Raging Heroes or HiTech Miniatures sculpt for mine if or when I get around to it. RH have a really interesting female Mechanicus/Dr Octopus sculpt with a hint of Necron that I think would work as I lean towards Slaanesh so the added gender diversity is a plus!

yeah, my first impression was positive. But now I'm looking closer I think I'd rather convert an admech model.

Whilst its a nice enough model, its not really Dark Mechanicusy enough for 40K without work.

That said, none of the FW vehicles make for a proper Hellforged look, needs some serious Chaos option packs.
