Scarab spam and the Gauss pylon are our two stars. DDA/TA are our best vehicles. Tesla immortals are best troops, pair with overlord. Everything else is very expensive for what you get. I personally think Tomb Blades are very good but YMMV. I think our alpha strike is very strong and the best build we have ATM

With regard to Tesla Immortals, do you find them more useful than Gauss ones even when the're not with an Overlord?

You're not. If you're worried about your opponent using 'fake' rules, you're having fun the wrong way. This hobby isn't about rules. It's about buying Citadel miniatures.

It depends. I havent play tested it yet but I'm going to run 10 tesla in a competitive list with no overlord. With ObSec you need some troops, and I plan to just GI them into cover midfield, being a fairly tough nuisance to whoever doesn't give them adequate attention.

Just to frame the question a bit better are you trying to win a GT or just play at your FLGS?
I get nothing but flakk still around my phalanx and how OP it is but I wouldn't crack top 50 at a real tourney or against tournie quality players.
So, with that in mind I advocate heavily for phalanx. It's boring but it works. Take two twenty warrior blocks supported by anrankyr and orikan. This is your main killing force. With Anrankyr it can recieve a charge with two attacks for everyone and orikan means you'll always get a save. One block gets MWBD per turn depending on position. Shoot stuff until dead. Most lists cannot remove all the warriors before regen.
I fill out the rest of my list with DDAs, stalkers, and some immortals to maximize the few army benefits such as QS.
It works until you have to face a true top tier list. Magnus and horror spam you have nothing against. You can't kill conscripts spam fast enough to get to the actually scary artillery. You need extreme luck against razorback assault cannon spam and we have nothing that can hurt guilliman.

Tesla Immortals with an Overlord are good. C'Tan got a boost. A 20 Warrior blob supported by a Cryptek has pretty much become an auto-include. Beyond that, everything else seems either over-costed or too one dimensional.

A 20 man warrior blob supported by a cryptek is 100% bit auto include, intact unless it's also supported by a GA, lord and a Deciever to get it all into RF range it's fairly useless. There is a raft of hardcore builds that will annihilate 20 warriors in a turn. Immortals are point for point much more effective.

Pylon. That thing can damn near go toe to toe with a reaver titan and is <480 points.
