I want to know everyones opinions on the idea of a mechanicus and marine 8th edition army. I really love the looks of the new Primaries Aggressors and chaplains but obviously I can't field them with mechanicus without some funny rules.

Should I just use the usual "counts as" rule or make a special new half marine half mech army?

Well... I may be wrong, but I'm not sure why you would need a counts-as army. You can just field a marine and Admech army by default. No funny rules required.

my advice would be to just run two detachments. one marine one admech.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Great Scott! I've been bamboozled!
Then hot damn I might just do that.
Am I wrong in thinking that, that would also not cancel Canticles of the Omnisiah?

Lastly now knowing this. would this be even a playable army? Due to the high Power Level cost of many of the models it might be a little too low count?
I have some Forge world models (Vindicator Laser Destroyer, a Triaros Armored Transport, and a Thanatar Calix Siege Automata)
also considering buying some of the Secutarii Upgrade kits and would like to eventually include them in said army, because those shields look amazing!
my usual group plays 100 power level so that would rack up fast

Cantlicles (I can't say that word without a slight giggle for some reason) will only be [strike]canticled[/strike] cancelled if your detachment is not pure admech. So if you have 1 detachment that is PURE admech, and then a seperate detachment of speshmareenz, then the canticles (giggle) will still work. Only for the admech units, obviously.

Also, good use of Great Scott!

Edit - I'm sure there's a way to strikethrough on this forum. Or I'm being dumb. I haven't slept much today.

Well, I also like the secutarii hoplites kit, and want to buy one myself, BUT they currently have no rules. Maybe they'll come out in the Fires of Cyraxis book that's meant to be coming out eventually. Until then, they're just vanguard. Same with the Triaros Carrier. Forgeworld have released ZERO rules for AdMech in 40k so far.

And I'm currently trying to make my own mixed force of AdMech and IG, which is looking like a low model count army as well. So I dunno about competitive. Should be fun to model/convert though, which is the main thing.

Gosh! Finally someone who understands my plight! There had to be a better word than Canticles.

I'm not looking to make this tournament worthy just something I don't get my ass blasted every game. I also hate painting small models so bigger the better in terms of quality.

Ive seen low model armies since 8th has dropped but its mostly tau and big shoots armies that have massively long range. However mechanicus feels like they just like really big guns. The idea is to have the Big Guns like the Thanatar and Vindicator to lay down cover fire while the Triaros and Aggressors make their way into range.

Yes you may keep the Canticles for your Mechanicus if, if all the models of a same detachment are Mechanicus. Place a SM in there and you lose them. So you'll have to get a detachment to fit in your SM.

Also, the Thanatar, the Secutarii and all the Forge World stuff for the Mechanicus are not supported by any rules yet, you can't play them right now sadly. Don't despair, there might come a time this year where FW models will be allowed in our army.

I sure hope so because so far I've been using them as my stand in titan and counts as land raider
