First list using the new codex. Seems pretty legit. I wish I could have squeezed in a Brotherhood Ancient to give out extra attacks, but I really wanted those 3 extra command points.

A small elite army. Looks solid.
How about deployment?

I think the Apothecary, Voldus, and Librarian follow the Paladins around. Put a couple Terminator units in reserve to snatch objectives when they come in.

Just use the Paladins as a deathstar to kill stuff while the Terminators hold objectives.

Think you might want to get some alternate psychic powers for your squads, since you can use Sanctuary only once each turn.

Haven't had enough experience with the missions, so unsure if the staying power is enough to win on objectives. Am afraid you might lack some punch to take on the more competitive lists.

You will struggle against flyers and fast lists in general. Also cheap bubblewrap troops will make for an uphill battle.

Could be fun though, a nice elite list and easy to transport . If you have the option I would exchange some wargear to falchions, as these appear to edge out against most opponents.

Voldus is really good, I've used him twice so far and he's been clutch. Vortex of Doom is quite tasty and really helps knock down vehicle and character wounds. I know you're taking Terminators for the CP's, but I quickly switched to Strikes and Paladins. For a negligible point increase, Paladin's are much better. I don't know if you the models, but 5 Strikes and a Razorback come in cheaper than Terminators, shoot better, and die marginally faster.

Indeed, Termies are a mixed bag.
They get marginally better with Sanctuary.

So I revamped the list in light of how the rules of 8th edition shape up.

Vanguard Detachment(+1 command point)
HQ
Grandmaster 193 pts
-Cuirass of Sacrifice
-First to the Fray(Warlord Trait)
-Daemon Hammer
-Psycannon
-Purge Soul

Troops
10 man Strike Squad 198 pts
-8 Halberds
-2 Psilincers
-Gate of Infinity

Elites
10 man Paladin Squad 573 pts
-5 Halberds
-Daemon Hammer
-2 Falchions
-Psycannon
-Psilincer
-Sanctuary

Apothecary 90 pts
-Halberd
-Hammerhand

Venerable Dreadnought 160 pts
-Twin-lascannon
-Missile Launcher
-Astral Aim

Paladin Ancient 140 pts
-Nemesis Falchion
-Vortex of Doom

Supreme Command Detachment (+1 command point)

Dreadknight Grandmaster 280 pts
-Heavy Psycannon
-Heavy Incinerator
-Nemesis Greatsword
-Gate of Infinity

Castellan Crowe 125 pts
-Sanctuary

Techmarine 91 pts
-Purge Soul

1850/1850 pts

Still have the Paladin deathstar, but now with a Paladin Ancient and Grandmaster supporting it(4 attacks each, with rerolls on 1s. woo!). Crowe also follows behind to get some "cleansing flame" action going.

Venerable Dreadnought with Astral Aim to hide in a building somewhere and No-Scope some noobs from complete safety.

Dreadknight Grandmaster acts as a secondary hammer unit. He can Gate up the field to get stuck in quickly. And if he needs help, he can gate to the techmarine to get healed(who will probably be hanging out with the Dreadnought).

Strike Squad is there to cap objectives.

I think your point costs are off on some of these. Don't have my codex at hand, but at least the following seem off:

- 10 man strike squad points cost should be higher
- Dreadnought should be more as well, think you forgot the missile launcher cost
- Not entirely sure what the cost for the heavy incinerator is again, but thought it was more than the heavy psycannon. Which means the dreadknight grandmaster would be more expensive as well

Think you need to recheck your point costs, as I think you need to scrap something to stay within 1850.

Grandmaster is 190+40(incinerator)+30(psycannon)+10(sword)+10(teleporter)=280

Strike Squad is 190+8(2 Psilincers)=198. Halberds are free.

On the dreadnought, the way it's worded in the codex makes it seem like the Missile Launcher is free when you swap your DCCW+Stormbolter for it. IIRC it's also been like that for the last couple codices too. I could be wrong, this new edition's codex layout is just fethed. It's like GW doesn't want you playing with points.

Well, in former editions I went for 3 Dreads with twin autocannons. These guys were rather effective. How about replacing the Ven Dread with some higher fire output?

Your Grandmaster also needs to pay for a single fist (+25 I think), so would be 305 points.

Strike squad also needs to pay for stormbolters so your squad would be 214 points.

None of the weapons is free anymore, you have to use the cost listed for each weapon that is used now. So for the dreadnought you still need to add the missile launcher cost.

It's different from every past edition, but now you pay for a "naked" model and need to pay for everything they have as wargear.

Ummm, no. Their base profile comes with storm bolters and force swords. The GM comes with two dreadfists.

GM in Dreadknight (does not include wargear) = 190
Dreadfist/two Dreadfists = 25/35
Greatsword = 10
H.incin = 40
H.psycan = 30
Teleport = 10

So your loadout == 305
You MOST DEFINITELY have to pay for Dreadfists. They're very clearly listed as costing points, and the GM's entry very clearly states that wargear is not included in the price.

Same goes for the GKSS. It's CLEARLY STATED that models do not include wargear. SBs are wargear, swords are wargear.
A basic GKSS costs 19+2=21pts.

Edit: Their "base profile" to quote you includes no wargear. It only includes M, WS, BS, S, T, W, A, Ld, and Sv. NOT WARGEAR!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And even more, your Dreadnought:
Dread = 110
Missile Launcher = 25
Twin las = 50
==185

Templar, you just need to re-read all the points and factor them into your lists. Nothing is free. EVEN IF IT'S LISTED AS ZERO POINTS, you still pay for it--it's just zero.
That's how I think of it, and it's helped me remember to pay for everything.
Only a few named characters have their wargear included in the cost, and it's--again--VERY CLEARLY STATED.

Don't give grand master incernator - waste of his BS. Give that to a standard dreadknight.

Ummm. Ok.

This is fething slowed GW. Completely fething slowed way of listing stuff out.

If something is in the standard loadout, include it in the unit's point cost instead of making us calculate it all. Feth this new edition.

Of course this is only if that's actually true. I still think "weapons not included" only means upgrades. Not base gear.

So if this is true, my actual list a 2000 point list.

Techmarine 136 pts

1965/2000 pts

I don't think this is the correct interpertation, because there would be no point to listing the base cost of some of these units. Like the Techmarine. It's impossible to give him any other wargear. Just swap the bolter for a bolt pistol, which are both 0 cost. So he would always be 136 points. So why would GW list him at 91 points base?

you still have to add in the costs.
for a Techmarine for example, you have to add into account the servo arm, etc.
I agree it's a waste of math skills, but that's how they've done it this edition.

Your army looks pretty mean on the good side. I think it'll be hard to chew through all that armor and invul saves.
I second the opinion as to spreading out the psychic options as you can only cast that power once per turn so having an alternative would be good.
