Figured I'd post here to encourage me to actually finish various projects.

First post today will be my attempt at converting a Biovore, because I hate the actual biovore model (and refuse to pay ~$41MSRP for that horrible model).

Given that it's been such along time since I've mucked about with GW plastics, I forgot how nice these kits are to work with.

Anyhow, pics!

Pretty much hacked up a Tyranid Warrior and added Stranglethorn cannon bits to make the spore launcher. Next up is a ton of GS work.

Just the things I don't really like for now.

Or things I'm too cheap to buy. See: Malanthrope.

Nifty conversion! It already looks way better than the stock model.

What other conversions do you have planned? I'd love to see an Old One Eye model

@Commander Cain - Thanks! I'm happy with the conversion so far, though I may change some things up a bit for the next one (sort of winging this construction). After I'm done with this and a second one, I have plans for a Tyranid Prime conversion from an old 2E Hive Tyrant and trying to make a Malanthrope from some spare bitz. I may try making a custom OOE at some point .

Meanwhile, I started some GS work:

So after a bit of time trying to figure out how to flesh out these guys, finally snagged some bitz to make things work!

Found someone on ebay selling plastic Tyrant/Hive Guard arms, and figured they'd work well. Turns out, the work out very nicely indeed!

Also snagged some bits to start working on a lictor conversion:

EDIT: man, I gotta work on these image sizes :-/

Yeah, but then I'd have to be not-lazy with uploading stuff. Obv.

Hah! Finally got some more work done on my WIPs.

Additionally, I got less lazy and actually uploaded the pics to the Gallery before linking.

I think I'm more or less 'finished' with my initial biovore, which I'm pretty happy with. Hopefully the next two builds will go quicker and more smoothly since I know how I want this to look now.

Also, been working on my Malanthrope WIP:

Nice work! I like your biovores better than the official ones as well.

I've actually been having a sort of difficult time finding a good comparison/scale pic of the Malanthrope next to other models. From what I can tell, they're supposed to be on 60mm round bases and ~4-5" tall, so I think in that respect, they should be about right....this one may end up being a bit bulkier than the regular model, though.

At least this guy is only costing me ~$5-10 in parts (not including all the greenstuff).

You might also consider using some photo editing to crop images. That way you can have reasonable sized images without filling the screen with tabletop.

It'll be a minute (it's boxed up at my parent's place), but I can take a pic of my Mal next to various things if you want.

Oh snap! A wild Jin has been sighted and is actually doing hobby stuff.

Slow progress on these Nids, but I've been finally pushing through the process of Magnetizing arms/different options for my big guys:

I started using the liquid plastic welder pen for the process and I must say it works so much better than the GS I was using previously. I highly recommend:

Finally, as a little sub-project during the whole magnetizing process, I decided to try out a small conversion to see if I could 'retro-fy' the Hive Tyrant's cannon arms so that he'd look more like the original 2nd Edition model and closer to the Mark Gibbons artwork from the 2E codex. I think it's working out decently:

In the interests of trying to go old school with my walking Hive Tyrant, I've been working on re-arranging the Bio-Cannons for my Hive Tyrants to look closer to the old Mark Gibbon's classic artwork, I've finally gotten the Venom Cannon set up, and now slowly working on re-jiggering the Barbed Strangler as well:

Venom Cannon all magnetized up:

That works surprisingly well! I'm a fan of the old Hive Tyrant sculpt and this captures the feel of that model very nicely.

After entirely too much time, I finally think I'm finished with my Malanthrope conversion. There was obviously an extensive amount of Greenstuff work, and I had to rebuild one of the back vents, which ended up working out pretty easily with some plasticard.

That Malanthrope looks great as well.

So stupidly, I decided to start up yet another project that's been brewing in my head.

Particularly, I've always hated the Tyrannocyte model, since I don't think it really feels right aesthetically to me. I get the design analog that it's got going relative to drop pods, but it just looks like a weird ugly blob relative to everything else in the army (excepting spore mines, obv).

I've always envisioned the model to be far more of a big flying Nid monster with a fat abdomen that lands and then starts spewing out whatever payload of Nids it has carrying in it.

Cue up some nice and useful bitz purchases online, and I think I've got a nice little start to what I'm hoping will be a sweet looking model to add to my menagerie:

Special thanks to H.B.M.C. for supplying me with much needed dimensions!

Slow progress, but progress nonetheless:

The abdomen is going to require A LOT of Greenstuff work. I'm trying to help things by filling out some of the empty spaces with plasticard spacers that will hopefully keep the model lighter and let me conserve GS-work.

Quick little snapshot of the upper torso dry-fitting. I always hated the Tyrannocyte just having random bioweapons just sticking out of the blobby head. Since I have plans for 4 of the 6 Nid arms, that leaves two available for guns, which means that I needed to figure out where to have the other 3. I think this is a pretty nice solution to that math problem .

Churning along.

I built up the lower abdomen with plasticard a bit more to save me on Greenstuff later.

But the biggest progress right now is the framing I'm doing for what will hopefully be the legs for this bad boy. One is framed up now using a bunch of spare sprue bits:

Turns out when you're stuck at home and no longer have a social calendar to keep up with, you get a lot more time to work on hobby stuff.

Fleshed out those sprues to give shape to the legs. They've now got the base layers set for the outer carapaces. Still need to fill in the gaps and do a bit more shaping to the outer shell with GS. Then I have to figure out how to fill out the inner side:

Also ended up tweaking the lower abdomen again. Namely, I moved the bit of Arachnarok carapace bit up, and am adding more plasticard carapacing.

And a quick mock up to show off the end goal of this badboy:

I'm pretty happy with how it's coming along...should look like a giant wasp-like Nid that just plops out Nids after landing.

And now for something slightly different!

While I wait to plan out the next steps for the Tyrannocyte conversion, I decided to try to push forward with finishing up the second biovore conversion I've had pushed off to the side for a while:

Sadly, I forgot to take the pics/lost the pics I took of the initial parts of build up, but they started off from parts of an old Warrior model with the barrel of a barbed strangler barrel like the one I made earlier.

However, I'd made some changes from the first version that I think make it look a bit better:

WIP 01:

Instead of using the Barbed Strangler sac as I did the first time around, I just opted to sculpt the 'spore mine' sac-belly. I also ended up rearranging the Warrior torso piece relative to how it was used in the first version.

WIP 02:

Unlike last time, I tried to work one half of the model at a time to avoid accidental destruction of work on the other side. So in this case, I decided to try to finish off the right side of the mini first. I think this half is pretty much done now. On to the next half!

And meanwhile, while I have extra greenstuff mixed up, I've been slowly adding to an old project I've had in the backburner. Bonus points if you can guess what it is!
