So I'm new to Nids, haven't played with them, rarely play against them and I put a pack of warriors together. One of them I modeled with bone sword/lash whip and rending claws based on the instructions.

Looking at both the index and BattleScribe, it looks like that's not a legal loadout. Please tell me I'm missing something and it's totally legit

Yeah man I'm sorry but that's not a legal loadout :( you can only have one special CCW on Warriors or Primes. Was it a legal loadout in 7th? Or are the instructions just fethed?

Is it possible whatsoever for you to remove the arms? You should look into magnetising/dowelling these larger models anyway.

Best thing to give him is a deathspitter and lashwip bonesword + adreanal glands and toxin sacs and flesh hooks.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

Yeah I just got it checked. That was a legal loadout in 7th, but the index changed it to no longer be legal. Which is bizarre because the whole bloody point of the indexes was so older legacy layouts could be used.

I don't know what to say other than it sucks, I hope you can fix it, invest in learning how to dowel your larger models to swap arms, or if it's not fixable, just remember to point it out pre-game, explain what happened, run it as a Devourer/Lashwhip or w/e and hope the Codex re-allows that combo at a later date.

With regular warriors I like to go scytal, deathspitter (or devourers if you don't want to spend the extra points) and bio cannon of choice.

Warriors should be mid to back field synapse support. You don't want them in melee really.

If you want to get a warrior in melee you should be taking shrikes. 6 more points for +6 M and fly. THESE are your front line melee synapse support. You want them getting in peoples faces as often as possible.

Then I load THEM with scytal and bone swords, flesh hooks, and maybe adrenal glands or toxin sacs. Probably toxin. It's not like the +1" advance and charge makes much of a difference when they are flying all over the table with their high M.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

So what kits make the Shrikes?

None right now. There used to be a set of warrior wings you could get from forgeworld, but they're OOP.

Some people use gargoyle wings, but they're a bit small.
I think others use Vargheist wings from the fantasy range, which are about the right size and look decent, but are kinda expensive.

If Shrikes don't have a kit, aren't they likely to go away when the codex drops?

They haven't had a kit for years and they are still here - in 5th, 6th, and 8th. There is a Forgeworld conversion kit, though. I was surprised honestly that they made it into the Index.

They have gained a pretty new lease on life by being really great in 8th and mostly they are just warriors with an extra bit. I would be pretty surprised if they didnt make plastic shrike wings to go in a warrior box or redo the warrior kit.

Yeah but chaplains and librarians have been around for awhile without a kit and they've been dropped from the marine codex because they don't have a kit

They are 100% guaranteed to be dropped from the codex without an official kit.

Wait a minute.... So the SM codex only has access to psykers through the new primaris librarian and specific characters? Is that whats happening?

No Model, No rules. There is no Librarian on Bike model, so that was removed from the codex. GW make a model for Librarian in Terminator Armour (but no storm shield comes with it, thus that option was made illegal), and a model for normal librarian, as well as special characters and the primaris librarian.

GW is simply making sure that their codex reflect their current production models; which makes sense for new customers joining into the game. no sense having things from old editions that are no longer sold that customers can buy

As for tyranid weapons I second the motion to use magnets. Each codex changes up what weapon combos are legal and also which are tactically viable to take. In general this means that magnets saves you a lot of headaches and pain; at least a core force of magnetic beasts then you can buy extras for fixed arms for better poses and conversions and such.

Warriors are the smallest I'd magnetize; then everything bigger magnetic arms. Tyrants; carnifex; tervigon - basically if its got more than one weapon choice magnets are the best approach.

Shrieks are liked winged rippers; we've had them for ages but never had a model. I'm surprised FW pulled their wings but its been so long that a new cast with warriors with wings is likely not on the cards right now. We did get a hive tyrant with wings after a long while. I'm sure GW is looking into it - why they don't produce an upgrade kit of their own is unknown.
Gaunts have also had a range of weapons from the last few editions that also don't have anything to model - the gaunt kit is old and only has fleshborers, devourers and spinefists.

Shrikes are not winged rippers. Winged rippers are skyslasher swarms. Shrikes are warriors with wings. Jump infantry warriors. They are to warriors what gargoyles are to gants.

Lance ahh sorry I meant that shrikes and skyslashers are the same in that they are codex choices that we've had for ages but never had a model for from GW (and skyslashers are still on the FW page but very very expensive)

I give it 50/50 that Shrikes make it into the codex. They have been without a model for years, but a conversion kit would be easy to make.

I prefer rending/scything + a venom cannon for warriors.

So I sent GW customer service an email explaining what happened and they said if I send them a pic of the assembled model and proof of purchase, they'd send me a replacement. That's pretty awesome of them.
