As the title suggests, I'm curious about the Relic Leviathan in 40k's 8th edition.

I'm thinking of buying one next week as my first Forgeworld purchase to join my Imperial Fists. However, as I can't play test it and no one I know has one, I have no reliable way to know if it's worth it in the new edition.

So anyone tried it out recently? If so, how did it perform and what was your preferred loadout? I'm thinking of grabbing the Grav flux, storm cannon and siege claw for some variety

It's competitively priced and a competitive unit. It's pretty frickin excellent and can be kitted out for tons of various shenanigans.

Can't go wrong with dual storm cannons, but the grav flux is excellent in horde wiping

It's bonkers. I played against one recently and that thing was much, much scarier than the imperial knight standing next to it. Maybe a bit too powerful.

Dual grav Leviathan is likely the best thing in the game, point for point. It can do anything from crack armor to delete a 50 man conscript horde. Its very durable too. Plus, the model rocks.

Honestly, it's one of the things that makes me not want to play with Forge World stuff. It and certain other imperial stuff is just so much better than the Eldar equivilant that it makes me wonder if they actually playtested anything in the Imperal Armor books.

If you like the model then get it, rules are temporary (and it is an awesome model). How you use it should depend on the type of games you play; casual or competitive.

For casual games this thing is extremely powerful, as BrainCandy stated*. Fielding it as is would probably not be fun for anyone involved. I'd proxy it as a redemptor/venerable/siege/contemptor/howmanytypesofdreaddoyousmurfshaveanyway dread instead.

For competitive games there is no such thing as too much cheese, bring three and bubblewrap with conscripts.

* my local flavor-of-the-month waac powergamer guy has been chomping at the bit to try one of these with 2x grav bombard since it got its current rules, while never mentioning them before 8th. That should say enough
