Hi All
I am new to using Chaos Spawn.
I have 3 fast attack slots and enough points for 3 spawn.
Should I take a unit of 3 or 3 single spawn ?
My army is Death Guard and lots of foot slogging Poxwalkers and Death Guard.

I have 3 Bloat Drones in my out rider detachment.

I was weighing up the Noxious Blight Bringer vs 3 spawn.

I think the spawn will be handy for holding backfield objectives and denying areas for enemy deep strikes.
I have a fair few deployments so wont be going first.

How do you take your spawn ?

Well, it depends. In general having them separate means you can move them independently and e.g. have them hold 3 different objectives. Or run in front of 3 different characters, etc.

However, there are situations where this might be a disadvantage. Obviously, when you need the FA slots for something different. Or, (a bit far-fetched, though) your opponent can shoot at the 3 spawns independently and then wipe the weakened spawns with some area of effect thing, since in a unit wounds have to be allocated to already wounded models.

My armies:
Eldar
Necron
Chaos Space Marines
Grey Knights
Imperial Knights
Death Guard

run them as 3 separate units. I don't see any advantage to running them as a unit if you don't need the FA slot. Single model units don't need to worry about leadership, they will have more tactical flexibility in where they can go, but the best part is the potential to make your opponent loose wound potential. Each spawn has wounds, if hit with a smite that does a full 6 wounds, you're going to loose 1 spawn and the other will take the other 2 wounds. If they are separate units, those 2 extra points of damage are lost. The same can be applied to any other weapon that has the potential of doing a lot of wounds in 1 round of shooting. While a unit can target each weapon at different unit, they can't target multiple units with 1 weapon. A twin Lascannon could potentially kill 2 Spawn if they are in the same unit, but only 1 if they are in separate units.
