G'day all, even though I've been in the hobby since 2nd Edition (and it's funny to see everything old become new again, but you don't want to listen to me ramble on like an old fart), I'm going to request clarification on a few things. I hope this forum is the right place for this discussion as YMDC didn't seem right as I don't think this is a contentious issue to rule on, more I'm a dummy who needs help.

I'm building a Word Bearers army list. Now, to be a "Battle Forged" army and thus access "Objective Secured" on my troops units (Cultists and CSM squads), I need to comply with the rule on P156 of the Codex - Everything must have the <Legion> keyword (or a derivative of it). So far so good, right?

Now because daemons DO NOT have this keyword, I cannot include them in my army on the army list without my army becoming non-Battle Forged, am I correct? Instead, if I wish to make use of any daemons, I need to use the daemon summoning rules to get them on the table?

Assuming I'm correct so far, that means I need to allocate spare points in my army list to these summoned units, but I don't have to specify which units I'm summoning until I roll the dice. So if I set aside say 80pts in reinforcement points on my army list, I could then specify when rolling the dice for Daemon summoning whichever keyword I wanted and then roll the dice - assuming I met the minimum power level requirement with my dice roll, I could then plop 10 of the correct daemons on the table, as 80pts will pay for 10 Plaguebearers or Bloodletters or Pink Horrors or Daemonettes.

Thus, my army list would look something like this:

Dark Apostle 76pts
Cultist Squad 49pts
Helbrute 156pts
Havoc Squad 130pts
Total: 411pts
Reinforcement Points: 89pts

Thus, during the game, I could summon one unit worth up to 89pts?

Thanks in advance for any assistance, I'm still trying to get my head around things. I don't want to accidentally invalidate my army from being Battle Forged because I would like access to the special rules/relics that come with it, and I don't want to accidentally dupe an opponent either. My main experience was in 3rd edition when I used to use a daemon heavy Death Guard army and I took Plaguebearers and a Great Unclean One as part of my army list, and they would just deep strike in when they succeeded in their reserve roll...

You have it right. You either have to keep points in reserve to summon the daemon, or put the daemons in their own detachment.

Summoning Daemons won't "pollute" your detachment.

Ah, excellent thanks for the clarification! I'm pleased to know I have a handle on summoning and that summoning won't un-battle-forge my army.

If I have a seperate Daemon detachment, will be army still be Battle Forged? I presume if the Daemon detachment complies with the standard rules then yes?

Yup. Good to go.

Awesome, thanks for clarifying!

With so many back editions of rules, it's often hard to interpret the latest version without applying some kind of memory bias.
