Hi! Some of my friends at my FLGS are looking to get into AoS and this has me excited. I've wanted to get into AoS for a while now, but before this I would have had nobody to play with. However I am really unsure what army I want to start and I was hoping I could get some help from the community.

So I am looking for an army that I would enjoy the mechanics of, but also like the lore of them. Any recommendations?

Lore wise I like:

Orcs of all kinds
Humans of all kinds (Especially Empire)
Dwarfs of all kinds
Most forms of Chaos warriors (Not Demons)
Skaven

Things I dislike and would never play:
Any form of elf ever.

Gameplay wise I enjoy all horde and medium size armies. Elite was never my thing in the past, but I would be willing to try it especially if its cheaper on $. Mixing some elites with a bunch of chaff is a tactic I like as well. I like having a versatile army that I can play a variety of ways. I like both melee and shooty armies, but prefer choppy over shooty if I can only have one or the other.

Another thing to note is that my friends and I fairly competitive with our lists so my army would have to be up to snuff.

So any faction suggestions or mix of factions to play?

Well if you're looking to start AoS, you cannot go wrong by checking out the Start Collecting box sets and figuring out what you like the look of. Find them here

If you rank Orcs (Orruks now ) first and were looking to go for a more Elite army then the Ironjawz are pretty cool. Orcs who have been fighting and winning for so long their smallest members are the Brutes and other Greenskins flock to as they know when the Ironjawz go to war it'll always be a good fight.
Ironjawz just got some awesome new Alliegience abilities with GHB2017 as well but they are pretty much a pure melee army if you don't take allies.

In terms of Humans, there aren't really any new factions though Freeguild are still about (but no Start Collecting box at the moment.) Chaos "humans" are present with the Bloodbound/Blades of Khorne if you were looking there. (again very melee focused though)

The Duardin have two new factions in the Fyreslayers and the Kharadron Overlords and still have the Dispossessed and Ironweld Arsenal (which together make up the bulk of the old line).
The Fyreslayers would be the cheapest with a Start Collecting box that is now quite cheap by comparison to it's contents ~3 months ago, but they probably have less overall selection. They do have some shooty and melee units though and the Magmadroths are really cool.

The Kharadron Overlords don't have a start collecting box but their miniatures are amazing and the overall theme of Steam-punk (really Aether Gold-punk) Sky Pirate Dwarves is awesome.Again easy to run as very shooty or a mix, very versatile these guys.

By the 37 keys of Tzeentch,We open the way for our brothers,
By the 1000 whispers of Slaanesh we call to them,
By the 12 plagues of Nurgle we fell their enemies,
And by the mighty axe of Khorne we cut open the world for them!

There are no elfs in Age of Sigmar. So you lucked out. Alefs, on the other hand?

Since you like Orks, Orruks seem to be what you should be looking for. As an aside, how about Beastclaw Riders? They are in the same alliance as Orruks. I never cared for Ogres but when they had the winter theme, it looked so freaking awesome. But they can be an Elite army so maybe not for you.

So I would look into Iron Jaws and Green Skinz. It seems you will have the most fun with them.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?
