Never read the book or saw the original but this looks quite atmospheric and well shot.
Sort of has a Stranger Things vibe going on I felt.

Stranger Things took some very heavy cues from Stephen King; the bully who tried to make the one kid jump into the quarry is basically lifted completely from It (he was actually toned down a great deal!) so it's not surprising some of it looks familiar

Here's hoping this'll be a good one! I think half my shift at work is going to go see it the week after it comes out, should be a good time.

Whilst CGI doesn't make or break a film, hopefully 2017 tech can poke at some of the more oddball strangeness the prior version had to avoid, and a non-comedy spider finale

A bit of trivia:

ALL of the kids from Stranger Things auditioned for roles in IT as well.

I gave up on Stephen King ages ago, though.
Most of the 'horror" of the old miniseries Pennywise was due to Tim Curry really playing up the creepiness. Clowns are not scary in and of themselves.

To be fair, it's Tim Fething Curry. It's not like he needs any makeup or costume to play up the creepiness if he wants to.

When he was on "Psych", I kept expecting him to be the killer.

He just has that vibe.

Because I live in Australia.
Where EVERY native lifeform that flies, crawls or squats in the mud wants to kill you and eat your eyes like ju-jubes.

Next to that, clowns just aren't scary ... period.

Now, that creepy alien interdimensional spider-thing from the old mini-series - that's just a life-sized native huntsman spider.

I think this movie is going to do pretty well, but it's not like it has much competition next week anyways. Not sure if i'll pay to see it, takes a lot to get me in the theater nowadays. I just don't enjoy the ordeal of going somewhere and sitting with a bunch of strangers (who are often annoying)

But hey at least this'll be a better adaptation than Dark Tower, which was an epic fail on many levels.

Well, I'm not particularly interested in the upcoming movie to be honest. The previuos film was kinda meh; unfortunately 3 hours aren't enough to portray the story unless the director, actors and the writers do an oscar-winning job.

The novel was the favorite book of my childhood, a real masterpiece.

A cinematic adaptation of the book can easily end in a decent horror, but when I see the title "IT" my expectations are very very high. I'll probably see the movie anyway, and even if I'm not particularly enthusiastic about it, I'll give it a chance though.

Just saw It - very good and impressive how well drawn all the kids are, including Henry. It feels like a whole season of a Netflix or HBO show crammed into a feature film. The result is somewhat choppy at times but great characters, some genuine chills, and a very vivid portrayal of Derry absolutely make up for that.

I have no idea whom or what that is.
I'll assume one of your notable serial whack-jobs. Not up on them, they tend to get lost in the weekly multiple-homicide reports from your land (and that's just the ones BY the police).

If it is a serial killer, it's not the fact that it's dressed as a clown that's the scary part.
It's the "if that's his family, then I'm really not surprised" factor. Then again, there are entire counties in the USA where Midwich was used as the template for them, so I'm really not surprised that there's so many of them.

That would be John Wayne Gacy in his hobby job as "Pogo the Clown" ...

Mr Gacy had a second hobby of killing teenage boys. (convicted of 33 murders, suspected in dozens more)

He was active in the 1970's.. convicted in 1980.

(was in high school then.. he was a BIG topic of conversation at the school)

Well, he is one of the most prolific serial killers to ever hunt people. Plus, he was around before the "weekly multiple-homicide reports from your land" started flooding your precious airwaves.

We get it, you are old and jaded. You have seen it all and nothing is scary. You live in the land where little spiders and snakes are frightening.

We live in the land where anybody could have a gun at any time and the police will kill you for looking at them funny. Australia seems pretty weak by comparison man.

Anbody see the film over the weekend?

My roommate got back from seeing it tonight. He's a big King fan, and he had nothing but good things to say about it. I'll be going next weekend with a good chunk of my coworkers; half the fun for me is watching other people freak out.

It's probably going to backfire, though.

it's good. Pennywise is off the chart scary in this.

Differences from the book but the overall feel us perfect. The actors playing the kids are really, really good.

I haven't seen it, but when I hear people talk about it, it always comes back to Pennywise killing it and the kids being spot on.

It's not that "I'm old and jaded" - it's more that clowns aren't scary. Period.

Well, orange-skinned oompa-loompas with small hands are scary (especially when elected by a populace for whom science denial is a way of life) but circus clowns, psychotic or otherwise are just not scary.

The greyhound bus terminal in downtown LA was scary. Clowns are not.
