It may just be me personally, but I've started collecting old WFB rule books and army books in the event that if one of my friends or quite possibly my daughter wants to play a game; we're able to do so. I now have a complete set of 8th edition books, and I'm slowly getting the 6th and 7th edition ones that I'm missing. I now own 5 WFB armies (my signature isn't updated to include Wood Elves and Ogre Kingdoms) and in the end I'm hopeful to be able to play any edition of WFB from 3rd through 8th.

Proudly howling at 40k games since 1996.

8th edition stuff is still pretty costly, but I'm starting to see a gradual drop on ebay. Best of luck in your attempt to secure such ancient lore!

Wolflord Patrick,

If you are interested in getting older WFB books, I still have some. I have a list in the Swap Shop. I just no longer play and the same thing has happened to my gaming group (couple of use dabbled in the 9th Age rules for a while). With a family there is only so much time for games and we have all cut back. We have really liked the new 40K and that has been the death of any WFB and I have been moving my armies.

Cheers,

CB

I have a slowly growing club of Classichammer players, so I always keep an eye out for a good cheap deal on 6th Edition stuffs. I have pretty much everythiing in PDF, but I'd rather have hard copies.

The best time for getting 8th edition stuff was just after it all ended. I got quite a few cheep book then.

I managed to get all the books except Sigmars Blood and the Forge World stuff.

I too picked up a bunch of 8th edition books just after AoS dropped. Played about £5-10 for most.
Currently doing the same for 7th edition 40k codexs.
I have 6 armies (only two built and painted) so can play a game of whfb with friends once in a blue moon.

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

My local group might start some old hammer 6th edition so I have picked up a few books on ebay. Codexes are not to bad in price but supplement books can be.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Recently I have been buying up 8th edition books, or earlier for the three factions not covered by 8th, as and when I invest in an army. Though I have had a decade and a half heads start on collecting the 'latest' Bretonnian army book.

Also I have been highlighting which army books are 6th edition so I recognise them by cover as they appear on ebay. I am not collecting 6th yet but have some 6th edition books anyway, as well as the Bretonnians and will buy more as they are found. In time my library will contain at least one book for every faction and the relevant book for playing 6th and 8th for every faction I collect, which so far is eight factions, will be nine next year and possibly as many as twelve eventually. Given time and opportunity I might collect them all, but I have no plans to collect some factions.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Got a complete set of 8th, barring the multiplayer expansion. That includes the Collectors Edition rulebook.

Kind of tempted to sell, free up some capital.

Just bought the hardback rulebook on auction for £2.

You might not free up much capital, but then someone else might pay silly money, my advice, set a reserve price or a minimum start price you can manage.

I would have thought the army books would go for more than the rulebooks.

I'm regretting not getting a Lizardmen army book earlier, not quite so easy to find now.

I do a trade in old warhammer books, there is a fair demand for them especially 8th ed. If anyone is stuck trying to find a particular book you could check out my shop on ebay to see if I have it. user search: zenspiderz. or http://stores.ebay.co.uk/zenspiderz

Opportune and fair means to plug your ebay store.

We can do better on prices by being patient though. I have had no problems getting any WHFB in 2017, any faction, and at reasonable prices.

I have filled holes in my Bretonnian roster this year, and it cost far less than I expected. Some people sell Bretonnians at premium rates because its a dead line etc, and it sells at those prices, then knights and peasants drift by for small change and I sift through and gobble up what I am after.
Patience, patience, patience. When on ebay wait a bit, what you want will be up again for less.

Best of luck to you on this.

Should I prove wrong I sometimes raise my price, so I cant turn my nose up at your service.

With my recent run of WHFB purchases I had to dig deeper only once, with Empire Knights.
They refuse to sell at sane prices, so I had to pay an insane price, £55 for 16 on the sprue, and even that price was low compared to others I saw. I got more knights when I sniped a job lot of Empire at a nice price and am happy as it included militia and old school state troops figures, and lots of them

I have had to write off buying an Empire Fortified Manor, that also sells at insane prices only and I refuse to be that crazy. Still I look for it in deals every now and then.

Do you have Lizardmen 8th army book, and if so how much do you want for it?

What about using non-GW historical minis for Empire or Bretonnia?

I don't currently have Lizardmen 8th, every time I get one it instantly sells. I usually sell that one for around £33 if it is good condition though I might have nudge it up a bit given how saleable it is.

My problem is my interest comes and goes in waves. I can't just sit there for months on end looking for specific books or models on ebay, after a couple of weeks I get bored and/or buy something else which consumes my spare money/time.

At the same time I'm not willing to pay stupid amounts of money, I already thought GW overcharged for most of that stuff which is why I didn't buy it from them directly in the first place

Living in Australia doesn't help, most of the stuff on ebay is in the US or UK and when you add shipping to already inflated ebay prices things quickly get stupidly expensive.

I really need to move closer to civilisation, as much as I like Australia it's not worth the damned inconvenience, lol. My other hobby is cars and it's another area where I'm jealous of the cool cheap cars people get in the US, not that you can't get cool cars out here but you pay a bloody fortune for them and then have to import the parts, gah, not worth it.

Both factions are near complete.
I will buy an Amber wizard, so that I have one of all eight, some I converted up, other official GW miniatures, but those I want to look right, and the amber wizard I am looking at getting is a nice sculpt. Its a low priority wait, and it comes up often enough at low price. That is actually it.

For Brets I might needs a few more knights to round up my collection for 4k gaming. Those I will buy from GW for compatibility as I have a lot of GW knights already and non GW ones will stick out too much, unless you know better from experience? But I am looking elsewhere for other things.
Most of my stuff is GW, with some select exceptions. Mantic for zombies and trolls, Reaper for some monsters. Select character miniatures from Gamezone and Reaper.
MOM Miniaturas https://www.momminiaturas.com has what else I need, including a very nice Bret trebuchet and infantry. I am not ready for a big order from there yet though, getting other more time critical items first. I plan my purchases often long before I buy, the adjust depending on what I see as ebay doesn't work that way. My main retail choice if Triple Helix Wargames, which was invaluable in bulking out my Vampire, chaos and Dark elf armies.

Been noticing that. Some 8th army books are cheaply and readily available, that one is not.

That is a nice trebuchet. I have a few Brettonian bits I have picked up in my personal stash for one day making a brettonian army, when that day comes that trebuchet will slot in nicely.

In my experience the Dwarf 8th book is the most desired / scarce of the regular Army books from all editions. I have sold it for as much as £55 a few times now. I currently have it listed at £60 just to see if it will go for that. Actually I am not sure I want to sell it at this point because I have it in mind to do up a Dwarf Army, lol.

If you get to sell at £60 that will pay for many dwarves. I havent seen those prices, but I dont have a professional eye, and don't collect dwarfs.
Still I do recall seeing it sell for between £20-30. Next time that happens I might buy.

Dwarfs are on my shortlist for army purchase in 2018, either that or Skaven.

Auctions usually sell cheap because of time preferences; in an auction the seller determines when the thing will sell for leaving it to the buyers to decide the price, this time convenience to the seller is priced in by the buyers as a lower price for the seller. Anything that will sell for £30 at auction will probably go for near double that at a fixed price. At a fixed price the seller determines the price and the buyer determines the time of sale, the time preference then is to the buyers advantage which allows the seller to make the price to his advantage. That's the dynamics of it in a nutshell.

How many dwarfs can be bought with £60 sort of depends on the dwarfs; I was looking on ebay for dwarf rangers specifically the Bugman's rangers kit from way back. Ebay dealers are offering it for over £100 for the box of just 20 or so metal dudes. scratch that lol. I guess I'll probably get Avatar of War's dwarf rangers instead, even at retail that would be something like £25 for 20, and honestly they look nicer anyway. Sadly my distributor doesn't carry avatar of war's stock anymore or else I could get them at trade prices. Or maybe I could try importing them direct from Avatar of War.

I am listening to you, earlier this evening I took a look around and found a new listing. With 'New' in a box on the auction listing, I watch for those carefully because oftimes the Buy It Now is not 'professionally calculated'.

8th edition Dwarf Army book, new in shrinkwrap.... £30

Its a high price IMHO for sale for army books, I normally would avoid that price, were it not for your advice, but yes Dwarf army books were selling at much higher prices than other army books.
Two copies were on sale, and one had already sold at that price. So I bought the remaining one.

Still not sure if I will collect Dwarfs, but it's a step towards completing my 8th edition library.
