The first proper wargame I ever played was 1st Edition Space Marine, the 6mm twin to Adeptus Titanicus. Now many years later, my interests have swung more towards the wars I thought would happen at that age, but didn't - namely the Cold War. To that end, I've been slowly collecting some 6mm 1/300 Soviet forces, but don't have any rules for them - looking around the market seems to think that scale means 1 tank= a platoon. When I played Epic, 1 tank = 1 tank, and a stand of 5 Marines = 5 Marines. Are there any rulesets out there that run 6mm modern warfare at the same scale that Epic was at, where each model represents the thing it's supposed to be?

Team Yankee is pretty close to what you want. OOB it's 1/100 (15mm) scale, but a lot of people have been playing it at 3mm and 6mm. It seems to scale well to both, even with the larger number of models involved at those scales..

I asked a similar question quite a while back. At the time, the general concensus on Dakka was that there were no modern rules that fit the bill.

Since then, two sets of rules have been introduced that cover what you appear to be looking for. The better known set of rules is Team Yankee, by Battlefront. Battlefront makes a 15mm line of miniatures for the game, but there's nothing forcing you to play at that size provided your opponents agree. Books are currently out covering lists for the Soviets, both Germanys, and British forces in Europe in 1985. The US also has a somewhat constrained set of lists that can be found in the main rulebook, and will be getting a book of expanded lists soon (probably early next year).

Another set of rules - Sabre Squadron - was released at around the same time. It's not as well known, in part because there's no big company like Battlefront involved. But it has an identical 1:1 scale of one figure per thing being represented. The game is written with a variety of scales in mind - from Micro Armor all the way up to 20mm. The lists are handled differently, so there's a lot of stuff available - though it isn't laid out quite as nicely as Battlefront's lists.

Ok, thanks - that was what I thought. Cost for GSFG vs UK rules are actually about the same for both companies BF core, Red Thunder and Iron Maiden are £39+P&P while the much more accurate OOBs in Sabre Squadron are £37, though the OOB supplements are pdfs only. On the other hand, reading reviews, TY looks more simplistic, while SS looks needlessly overdetailed (tons of stats and tables on tank weapons vs armour, which nearly all resolve out to 1 hit=1kill for ex.)

Think I might actually go for the BF offering as I'm looking for game rather than simulation, and if I later go for Battlegroup Northag, well extra H&R infantry to rebase wont break the bank.

I was thinking of this one as weell. However, the Warmaster style activation mechanic is not to everyone's liking.

It is Warmaster for other periods though. Folks familiar with Warmaster will find some similarities.
