Say if your an Ork, Heretic, Tau, Eldar, or anybody that isn't for the Emperor or Imperium. What would be the scariest Space Marine chapter that you could possibly face? (Note: Refering to loyalist chapters, and not including the Grey Knights or Hombrews like the Angry Marines) I personally think that the Flesh Tearers would be frickin terrifying to fight (they managed to Scare frickin Orks!)

I was going to say grey knights because of exterminatus and all that, but since you excluded them.

Flesh tearers like you said would probably be scary.

Space wolves I think would be pretty scary

Templars. Helbrecht and the Champion running at you will obliterate any characters or monsters (barring the primarch ones).

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I am going to go with Carcharadons because they are absolutely savage and stealthy. If I were fighting Templars I would at least know where they were coming from, but the Carcharadons will jump out of a bush and brutally maul me in a very painful and bloody way. You just know they are at there.. but where..? BEHIND YOU! *Stab stab*

Straight fear factor? My vote is Ravenguard. Killing coms, disorienting attacks, strikes from the shadows, knowing that they could be hiding anywhere. Silently killing your leader/sgt/friend, one by one til your squad is gone.
Brutality: Carcharadons
Unrelenting attacks: Black Templars, Grimaldus being able to work up a fighting force that was meant to die quick, into an Ork slaughtering force that lasted longer than anyone thought they would. Add that and backed up by Helbrect, let the pure hated they can infuse into their troops, and allies flow.

If any force : Dreadwing(so awesome!)

Oh I dunno. Imagine being a Tau Firewarrior, just chillin' with your Blade Bro's when blue drop pods start dropping out of the sky. You spew out your tea, grab your pulse rifle and head to the battlefield. At first, it's kinda funny. Big humans in blue armor shooting archaic projectile weapons, while you and your Battle Bro's are picking them off from long range, using marker lights from Pathfinders. Then some tanks starts showing up. Big, boxy looking tanks. OK... nothing that a few railguns can't handle. But then more blue dudes show up, and now they are close. And that's when you realize that one has a sword, and not just any kind of sword, it has a chain blade on it and they are choppin' your Balde Bro's in half! Now all of a sudden, those stupid ancient guns are close enough to shoot you and they are firing bullets as big as your head... and they are ripping through the lines! The Etherals shout encouragement, and a Riptide starts mowing down all the blue guys. Suddenly, you hear a booming voice shout out "FOR THE EMPEROR!" and a 8m tall blue dude shows up, no helmet, with fancy golden scroll work on his blue armor, and a GIANT FLAMING SWORD that he stabs into the Riptide and blows up. He shouts out "BY THEIR DEATH WE SHALL KNOW THEM!" and proceeds to kill any and every living Tau that gets within a 1km of him. He keeps shouting out things like "ONLY IN DEATH DOES DUTY END!" and all the blue guys fight even harder. No matter how many you take out, they just KEEP COMING, and they keep shouting things like "BURN THE HERETIC! DESTROY THE XENOS!". Some even start chanting or singing about some Chapter or book thing... they must be insane! And that big one? Just turned to look at you in that way a big predator animal looks at it's prey.

Minotaurs bearing down on you would make for a pretty lousy day...

I'd be more afraid of Minotaurs if I was a marine.

My vote is for Templars. They outnumber every other chapter several times over, are in a permanent state of frenzied crusading, and are all religious nutters (beyond normal Imperium religious nuttery) ready and willing to die for their god. They maintain close relations with the most horrible organizations in the Imperium, have some of the meanest close combat specialists around, but most importantly, can render themselves immune to all fear and breaking by having some cheap cyborgs follow them around hauling chunks of masonry and bits of cloth.

Tamwulf has a point, right now only ONE Space Marine Chapter has a PRIMARCH. I'll vote that way too "the ultramarines chapter lead by Gulliman"

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Blood Angel's Death Company. Those guys scare their own chapter for Emporer's sake. ATSKNF don't work with them around.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

Pretty biased but I'd say Salamanders would be pretty scary to face down. Coal black skin and huge jets of flame roaring towards your battleline. Melta guns boring huge holes in your armoured units.

Impenetrable Drakescale deflecting shots with no effect on the wearer. Especially if the Forgefather turns up and sticks a literal Primarch's weapon into you.

Problem with that is that it wouldn't really be on your mind while fighting them would it? I'd go with the Flesh Tearers or Carcharodons. Seeing an enemy literally rip into your comrades with their teeth and drink blood during the slaughter would trigger a much more instinctive sense of dread and terror than the thought of being captured by an enemy whose penchant for interrogation you likely wouldn't know about anyways.

No it would literally be on you mind while fighting them, providing there was a librarian around of course, also there is a reason why interrogator chaplains used to cause fear, interomancy was the most mind screwing psy list available, shame its gone now, replaced by that empty shell in the index, heres hoping they bring it back when the dex drops.

Each brings fear through their own ways.

The thunder of siege guns heralds the coming of the Imperial fists as the fortress you had been taught from birth was "unconquerable" is turned to dust in seconds as they smash through it before smashing you with as little effort as they had used on your fortress, all while utterly stoic and silent about their work.

The Blood Angels descend from above in a whirlwind of blades, blood and fury. Your lines are cut apart as red clad warriors leap through entire squads of troops or mobz of boyz with their jump packs and fast moving warriors.

The Iron Warriors are utterly cold and mechanical in their advance with columns of tanks and warriors that just do not die as they systematically kill everyone around you like a Terminator (the movie, not the armor) with machine precision and the declaration "THE FLESH IS WEAK"

Space Wolves is savagery incarnate, with White Scars blistering speed bringing death in a blur of white and roar of engines.
Salamanders mastery of flame burning all they touch.

Space Marines are terrifying in general but each chapter does it in their own way.

Hell, the Imperial Guard can do this as well if needed, unending waves of Tanks, Troops and perpetual rain of artillery. NO matter how many you manage to kill, no matter how many die. They just keep coming until you are ground into the dirt under their boot heels or treads.

Not to mention the God Machines of the Adeptus Mechanicus, The TItans, or the Skitarii or Mechanicus troops in general. While Terror tactics are not a focus of many Imperial forces, even by themselves they are truly horrifying to behold.

More importantly, both the ultras and dark angels actually think and plan and are not just charging argh argh. Their effectiveness would be higher.

Perhaps not technically a Marine Chapter anymore, but the Flame Falcons would be pretty creepy to fight.

Eh. An airstrike by a flight of AX-1-0 Tiger Sharks would turn Rowboat into so much gooey paste. The flaming sword would make it easier for the pilots to line up their shots.

Black Dragons are meant to be a rather terrifying force, even for the Imperial Citizens they're meant to be protecting.

Spooky black armour, images of dragons, and typically bigger than even a regular Space Marine. Oh, and not to mention the giant bones sticking out of their skin/ armour, and god forbid one of the more mutated of their chapter has their helmet off.

And yes, they are still Loyalists.
