So, just something I came up with completely at random, please give me your thoughts:
Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt- 90 pts, 5 PL
WS 2+ BS 2+ S3 T3 W5 A4 LD10 Sv 4+
Gaunt comes equipped with a bolt pistol, the Sword of Hieronymo, and a camo-cloak
Sword of Hieronymo- S+1, AP -3, Damage 1, user gains a 5+ invulnerable save in close combat
Camo-cloak- gains +2 to save vs shooting when in cover, as opposed to +1, and gains +1 to save vs shooting when out in the open
Aura of Discipline- as per Lord Commissar
Summary Execution- as per Lord Commissar
Ghostmaker- all TANITH INFANTRY units in 6” of Gaunt may reroll all failed to wound rolls in shooting and close combat
KEYWORDS: Infantry, Character, Astra Militarum, Ordo Prefectus, Commissar, Tanith
Your thoughts? I personally wonder if his "reroll wounds" aura is a bit OP, especially with mass infantry blobs. Perhaps turn it into reroll 1's? I also wanted to have some rule that reflected his ability to inspire his troops, but I figured that Aura of Discipline already had that well represented. Not giving his a refractor field was a conscious choice, though-- not only do I not recall him having one in the books, but I also (1) wanted to give Gaunt a weakness, and (2) encourage players to get him into combat.

I like it! I would also include the rule that if taking Ibram Gaunt, any <Tanith> Infantry squads may take camo cloaks at 2ppm (if one model in a unit is equipped with a camo cloak, all models in the unit must be).
Rerolling all to wound rolls in combat isnt too strong as it can't be combined with orders and Guard aren't reknown for their assault - but it would represent their speciality with Tanith Straight Silver well. However, rerolling all to wounds with shooting could be brutal when combined with orders - it takes lasguns from wounding T3 at 50% to 75%, T4 and T5 at 33% to 56% and wounding T6+ at 17% to 31%. So rerolling ones for both might be better.

Unless I make it only rerolling wounds in close combat? The problem is (1) this becomes absurdly powerful if you throw in a Conscript squad, and (2) a part of me wants to reflect the Tanith awesomeness when it comes to marksmanship. I guess maybe reroll 1's to wound in shooting as you suggested, or maybe make Colm Corbec as a side character and give this reroll 1's aura?
Also, should the Sword of Hieronymo do more than 1 damage? On the one hand, it's a legendary sword, but on the other hand, I don't recall Gaunt being awesome enough to one-shot Terminators in close combat. Then again, the sword did kill a power-armoured Chaos guy in the third novel, so...

Didn't the sword cut through a Baneblade barrel at some point, it was wielded by a Living Saint, but still.

Cool, lots of cool possible rules for Gaunt and the Ghosts.
First and Only - All Tanith Infantry models on the field may use Ibram Gaunt's leadership value instead of their own during the Morale phase. In addition, all Tanith Infantry models that remained stationary and in cover add 1 to their hit rolls and 1 to their cover saves.
Scion of Hieronymo - If Ibram Gaunt is your Warlord, you gain 1 additional Command Point. You may also use the same Strategem twice per phase, even though this is normally not allowed.

Hmm, so maybe D2, then.

I LIKE this! When I have the time I'll see about concocting rules for more of the Tanith (not to mention other BL chars), but I dig these Tanith rules. I'm tempted to wait until the AM Codex, though, to see if they have regiment-specific rules to further align these to.
