Ever since the 2nd edition eldar codex, I have been fascinated by the exodite eldar.
So I took my sculpting tools and started making them.
here is the progress, very much WIP

Short theme explanation; these exodites come from a "desert sea" planet, inspired on the dune books I've been plowing through recently.
So sea creatures swimming or floating on the sand, with a bit of ostrich etc mixed in.

The models are based on standard eldar units, so playable with the standard rules.

First up, a waveserpent, re imagined as a ray floating on an electric field, secreted from the gills.
Materials, balsa, reptile leather, scratch-built plasticard barge, loads of putty and old warwalker and dreadnought parts (finally some use of these heavy and outdated models)

Secondly, a unit of warwalkers, re imagined as walking birds, with an old model jetbike chopped up above it, 6 eyes is a theme here.

comments would be appreciated.

Eldar are not a race I've ever been interested in, but the quick backstory on these specific ones I've read is intriguing.

As for your models, they are terrific. I absolutely love those walking birds. They are so unique and a kind of creature you just don't see in 40K battles. It'll be lovely seeing these all finished and painted up. A really unique and interesting force. The sculpting on those birds is sublime.

Some interesting work. Would have to see them painted before I can say how much I like them. Nice to see anyone trying Exodites at least. It's one of the few versions of Eldar I could see doing a whole force for if they're ever properly released.

Thanks, there has got to be be more fauna on alien planets then dinosaurs right, I agree that eldar riding a crystal singularity, or a sentient gas cloud is a bit much, but having them find dinosaurs every bloody time would be highly improbable (as if elves riding a giant ray is not improbable, but hey)

Amazing work. And you didn't go the easy route, with so much scratch-building/sculpting.
Can't wait to see more!

A lot of the fluff has them taking a lot of magadons and other creatures with them to their various maidenworlds. these arent the stuff the found there, but stuff they transported knowing it would be useful. these base stock varieties have obviously been bred to become more suitable fot their eventual roles and habitat, sort of like dogs have around the world. While I'm sure many adapt more exotic local wildlife, the core stuff is most represented because it is the most common.

Truly amazing work. It is not how I would envision Exodites as I am very much in the lizard-rider Exodite camp, but that does not matter. The creativity and sculpting skill, along with the required perseverance to complete the projects, are to be admired.

The colors you chose for your giant manta ray model evoke a very earthy, but fluid aesthetic. The bone and blues complement the browns and electricity of the creature well, and suit the idea of Elves also. The structure looks like it simply rests on the creature's back, rather than being fixed in some way. Is that intentional?

The war walker birds look striking. Great use of color, especially the black beaks juxtaposed to the bright orange. Also, the blues, as they complement the orange and bone well. They really shout "force to be reckoned with". The balanced motion you achieved with the models is what interests me most about them, though. The colors just emphasize that motion well. It all looks so natural, as the Exodites would.

I look forward to what your next development brings. Never rush it, just take joy in it.

Actually yes, chaining an animal I not very eldar like (maybe the dark ones do, but these are just feral) I would imagine they would have more fitting and gracious ways to get an animal to cooperate, so it is designed as if it just balances, maybe it grips using some sort of nano bond etc.

Thanks for all the nice comments.

Always like to see a new take on Exodites. These are really well done models and I like your fluff too.

Thanx! see you are doing some exodite work too.
what is up next for me is:
direavengers (converted of course)
wraith blades or guard, probably some dryad conversion or scratch built.
some psycher either a farseer, spiritseer or warlock, maybe on a jetsquid.
maybe someTriumvirate of Ynnead character or an autarch or something
would love to do witch elves as howling banshees

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also had they been around at the starting time of this project the deepkin would have made a lovely exodite army.

Yeah, I'm sure some Deepkin will find their way into my army. I'm also going to go down the Wych Aelves as Banshees route. I just need to get around to ordering some Storm Guardian arms for their weapons. Have gotten deep into my Blood Angels lately though, so the pointy ears are on the backburner

Nice! I'm not entirely buying the squid surfers personally, they look a little tacked on. Have you considered just leaving the riders off? You could maybe add one of the power vanes to suggest a remote control aerial

I REALLY like the wraithguard WIP, that rocks!
