Hello everyone!

Been a while since I've made an update, been busy with work (Weather's not helping at the moment!), getting the product ready and building the online store....yeah...it's coming!

But I thought i'd update you all on the thing that has been mentioned quite a bit about my INSTAR product and that is the bottles, notably the sizes available!

So meet the family!

This will be the standard range we will be supplying, the sizes are from Left to Right - 100ml, 50ml, 20ml, 10ml and 5ml. There is a special 2.5ml Sample size bottle coming as well (Not pictured because it hasn't got here yet) for those who wish to sample the paint before buying a larger amount!

For such a small thing, it's been a big talking point as for those of you who paint large armies (Not always by choice, Orks, IG etc), you need an awful lot of paint to basecoat these models and it gets expensive, I should know!

So this is where the idea came from to supply these colours and indeed the whole range in different size bottles so it can cater for the needs of the individual painter, instead of having 8 pots or small bottles of paint, you can have just one large bottle or vica versa if you don't need a lot of one colour, just buy a 5ml bottle of that colour, it couldn't be simpler.

And with our competitive pricing, the larger the size, the more you save, but more on that when it's finalised.

Another thing as well which Ninjapirate mentioned in the last update as well as to me when he was testing these paints was the child proof caps, for someone who has a young child like I do, this was a welcome addition. The last thing you want is a small child getting hold of your model paint and using it to paint a pretty picture, or getting it over the walls, knocking it over etc.

Again, simple, but effective!

And with the super small dispensing nozzle means that you'll get the perfect amount of paint everytime!

As always, you can view the website at INSTAR Paint Website or you can like our Facebook page and send me a message if you like INSTAR Paint - Facebook

Look out for the next update!

Just continuing work on the metallics, they're coming along, but they're harder to do then the normal colours!

But I will continue on, and hopefully have another update soon!

Extremely interested in a paint range that will bring the cost of the hobby down.

However, would suggest getting some pictures on your websites gallery that show the potential of the paints. 90% of them look like they were painted by a 5 year old, with only the containers looking half decent. They still look like the paint has gone on a little thick though, which suggests your paint is thicker than advertised, or needs an insane amount of coats to get strong coverage :/

Decent paint jobs in the gallery from an early stage is a sure way to increase your potential sales when actually released, instead of showing quick rubbish for the sake of showing something :/

P.s. Sorry for my brutal honesty

My thoughts exactly. If I'm being honest those pictures are awful and they give the impression that the quallity is very low. If I would be looking for new paints I would never buy those after seeing
those pictures. Look at other manufacturers they put up the best image possible. I hope I was not too harsh.

Have to agree... The pics on your website really aren't going to sell your paints.

If you can't afford to get some professional paintjobs done, maybe try approaching some painters with the offer of samples in exchange for pics.

I painted those containers. The issue is, the sample set had poor color choices. Needed something a little closer to primary colors and a few others to start. So anyone painting those sample pics did so just using mostly highlight colors... and weird 3d printed models for some reason.

I think he's well aware of the need for better pics though.

Oh I am well aware of the pictures issue!

But the feedback is constructive and noted, I'll have to go back and vet the pictures, but this is also a reason why will be sample sizes available of any of the paint colours as well so that you can try the paint out without having to commit to buying a large amount that you might not get on with, some people prefer Citadel, Vallejo, Army Painter etc but other people would never go near it no matter how good the pictures look of what other people have done. Sometimes people just cannot get on with paint.

The paint is pre thinned, it has a lower solid content than citadel and vallejo, but it's not so thin that it's just water, it's designed to save time not having to thin it a bit first.

I have got a painter doing up a model, however he is restricted (As I am) with a job and family so it's taking a little bit of time.

It's just starting out and i'm well aware of first impressions, but if i'm honest, I would not have gone anywhere near GW seeing how the models looked way back when (80's Era) as they looked in my opinion "Amateurish" even with the paint jobs, but look at where they are now.

Then

Now

Everything had to start from somewhere.

I will take the advice on board though regarding approaching painters with pictures for samples, sounds like a good plan!

I've vetted the pictures and just decided to reduce the amount to the four best images I've received from the testers that highlight the paint well, until I get some more pictures (Which might come from people submitting pictures to the facebook/twitter page possibly) then i'm in a bit of a desert with imagery.

Gunzhard

I removed the 3D printed model from the imagery, except in the news section because that was a 3d model that I printed off haha

I'm not much of a painter and I guess it showed!

No offense but that image hasn't been taken from games workshop and was never part of their presentation. It's from a 3rd party website that displays bad amateur product shots.

GW had good painters right from the start and as the web wasn't invented back then, they started they showed off their examples in their magazine. Even then, there pictures were good quality and painting up to a standard to promote the sale of their product.

I'm glad you've removed the truly bad ones of your own site, but really do press the need for you to get some good quality pictures up ASAP if you want your product to take off and become successful...even if it means paying a professional to use your paints and paint a dozen different models from known ranges of models (not 3d prints). Potential buyers need to see what kind of things can be done with the paints you offer.

Plus you're correct that there are die-hard vallejo or citadel fans, but you'd be surprised just how many veteran painters are out there that use a whole range of different paints to complete the work, and are always on the look out for new or improved variations. Then there are the people who are new to the hobby and looking for a cheap way into the hobby and will be looking at examples of what other people have done to decide where to start. If they see rubbish, they'll assume the product is rubbish and look elsewhere where there are good examples.

Please note that i'm truly not trying to flame you and just trying to give constructive advice based on experience from being a painter of over 15 years and working in the promotion of products to a consumer.

Finally, i'll just leave an example of an early white dwarf from the 80s (issue 118) just to show you that GW never displayed substandard work:

I don't mind the feedback and I know you're not trying to flame me

I was more referring to the quality of the models rather the paint jobs, i'm probably not thinking too straight at the moment having worked 12 days in a row (and still have another 7 on top of that)!

I agree on the pictures issue, I have a guy in my hometown looking at them who is part of a big gaming community so it's kind of a big deal and he's a painter too so it'll be interesting to see his work. So far the feedback on the product has been largely positive and I have a guy in South Korea who's very interested in the product as he's coming back into it and found the paint incredibly easy to work with but I agree, I do need some really good quality pictures to really sell the product, If I was a really good painter then I could do it myself, but my Ogre shows that my skills are not that great!

I'd be happy to discuss a bit more with you about the paint privately if you wish, it'd be good to get some more advice
