So, I was doing some light fluff reading about the Endtimes, and a thought came out of the blue: What happened to the halflings? So yeah. What HAPPENED to the halflings? Did they all die off during the Endtimes? Are they off in some obscure corner of one of the realms? Have I just missed them like an imbecile?

Good question.

One assumes they're in Azyr or somewhere, but they've not been mentioned at all.

I like to think that they have their own little realm in the cosmos composed entirely of food, where they squabble and gourge themselves in blissful ignorance of the bumpf that GW write about the Realmgate Wars :-p

I hope they are never seen again - ever.

Hated them in Warhammer and they never existed in my version of the world

Heh, good one.

Haha, I'll second the court idea. Which would actually work out since at the end of the End Times they did take refuge under the vampires along with human remnants.

I imagine they're gone because they were a hold-over from Warhammer's early Tolkien days before the human nations were made clear and you had blatant LotR copies like the names "Men of the West" and "Men of the East".

AoS is about giving fantasy it's own identity so they really didn't fit as-is.

A change to their species like undead Ghoulings or a focus on their unfinished origin alongside Ogres as anti-chaos creatures by the Old Ones could also make them something akin to Bonesplitterz as chaos hunting tribesmen would be a cool twist too.

Though if someone made a army of them mounting gryph hounds as cavalry I wouldn't complain.

Huh, did any of their models get ported to AoS? They're not on the app, though I'm not sure if they've only been recently removed along with some of the older named models, or if they were never in AoS in the first place.

On the old warscrolls it says on the last page "The following do not have their own warscrolls. Instead, use the substitue warscroll indicated below."

And Imperial halfling hot pot is substituted with empire mortar.

Huh, really? Pity. Personally, I'm hoping they make a reappearance. It's true they were initially more or less a copy of Tolkien hobbits, like Baron Klatz said, but they've kind of developed their own identity at this point, what with the riding dogs, food catapults, and unique relationship of sorts with the Vampire Counts. Still, wouldn't be to surprised if they faded into the mists of the Old World with the advent of AoS.

Maybe they were all eaten by Tyranids.

To those that say there is no stupid questions I say, "Is this a stupid question?"

They certainly wouldn't be the first short humanoids they've done in

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Sigmar might not have bothered bringing them back.

I think they are just being civvies in Freeguild realms. Humans do the fighting halflings do the cooking.

They will only get dangerous when Khorne challenges them to a bake-off.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

I wouldn't mind if they're brought in as a replacement for the Gnoblar in a new Ogre faction, tbh.

Granted, I also wouldn't mind a Gnoblar sub-faction.

Not sure what happened to them but I fear the worst.

They are short, fat and easy to catch as well as a great source of iron.

A tasty meal with chips...

Well, their iron content was misstated due to a transposed decimal in earlier studies. Halfling are basically the spinach of cannibalism.

2000 Khorne Bloodbound (Skullfiend Tribe- Aqshy)
1000 Tzeentch Arcanites (Pyrofane Cult - Hysh) in progress

Ah in that case maybe they were hunted into extinction by Popeye.
