Finally got my hands on Imperial Armour - Index: Xenos and saw a jolly-jolly goodness in a profile of a Killa Tank which is a super-heavy orksh vehicle capable of being a transport with it's own "open-topped" rule, T8, W24, M12", Sv 4+ with lots of dakka capability for only 251 or 253 points if you take it without wargear. 48" Heavy 6d6 S6 AP-1 D1 or 36" Heavy 2d6 S10 AP-4 D2 with a BS4+.
This "open-topped" rule kinda sucks if you consider that your transported gits will shoot something only on 6+. But if you, let's say, take a full squad of nobs armed with kombi-skorchas inside? 10D6 S5 AP-1 auto-hits albeit with a low range for 360 points.
Do you think this kind of machine will work on the battlefield with a cost of 611/613 points? Is it viable in 2000 points game?

Kill Tank is a nice beast.
Downside is that with that many points in one vehicle, you need to go kinda mech heavy or it'll get focussed away early. Ork mech heavy is a so-so build right now.
Still, Ork beasty is always fun.

The Meka Dread is my favourite unit in that index. More 4+ dakka and another source of KFF, with RIPPA KLAW shredness on top. Feels reasonably costed to me. Probably never makes it's points back but it looks scary and has decent utility.

Putting Big Mek with KFF inside to provide more survivability and wound restoration can solve that problem, but it will rack up it's cost even more. Hell, it starts to sound more ridiculous as I go on.

Scrap the Nobz, Ive been building a killatank list for awhile and imo, go with;

Kommandos - 2x5 man units get 4 burnas, they are cheap, so you can also throw in a mek to get out a repair etc. Plus when it explodes, you have 2 ablative wounds and a Nob, who if you wish can take a combi skorcha. This is far cheaper than Nobz and still gives you a mega-load of dice on Overwatch if the killatank is given all the skorchas it can take.

Secondly, as the kommandos can infiltrate, if the enemy is running a list that you dont want to put the kommandos in the Killatank, you can infiltrate instead. Giving you tactical flexibility.

Burnas - can get more D6 hits if you wish, but are more costly. Also can turn 1 into a Mek if you wish.

Big Mek on bike with KFF to back it up, and plenty of other armour. Gorkanaut, Mega-dread would be a good choice. gives you plenty of big beasties. Well at least thats what im gona run! Other great choice imo, is a second killatank

Favourite Game: When your Warboss on bike wrecks 3 vehicles simply by HoW - especially when his bike is a custom monowheel.

iirc kommando nob can't take shooty weapons, so no k-skorcha, unfortunately. But he can take a bigchoppa or a klaw.

As for the killtank, it's a very good unit. I think it can find a place in any list because it has a really good durability per point ratio. The weakness is that it still kinda lacks dakka for points and can't fall back + shoot. Those are the only reasons it's not overpowered. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to build an army around one of those tanks.

Ahh damn. that is a shame about the kommando Nob, indeed he can only access the choppy list. You could go half and half, with 5 Nobz with K-scorchas and 5 kommandos for the extra burnas, but then in that case, ammo runts are potentially still better? I just think Nobz is too many eggs in 1 basket.

I understand about the no falling back and shooting..... but its Str8 (10 on the charge) and WS3+ (WS2+ with banner nob ), and its Str doesnt degrade like most other vehicles/walkers. Basically this thing wants to be in combat and you should be smashing it into combat where ever you can for those D3 mortal wounds.

I think its the most orky vehicle we have and like Koooaei said; its one of the only orky vehicles thats actually is durable for its points (lookin' at you shelf-stompa).

Kill tanks are a pretty solid unit, especially for the points. I prefer the 2D6 gun.

Could always put burnas inside -not quite skorchas, but a bit cheaper.

iirc Burnas can deal only D3. If so, this looks kinda weak compared to Skorchas and Kombi-Skorchas.
