Well, after a quite long absence showing anything that I've been working on, I thought I'd dip my toe in briefly, to show off my latest and, due to my starting University soon, final work for a while. So, while you're all straining to hear the tiny violins of my miniatures-deprived misery ( ), here's some shiny pictures for, hopefully, your enjoyment! Any C&C is most welcome, nay - mandatory!

Salamanders 2nd Company, 1st (Tactical) Squad

Led by their Sergeant, Bruniik Haal, the warriors of the 1st Squad are the Company's foremost experts at Zone Mortalis and Frontal Assault actions. Clad entirely in relic armour, a feat that perhaps only the master smiths of the Salamanders could attain, this indefatigable brotherhood can often be found where the fight is at it's fiercest, urged on by the smoldering fury of Haal. Many are the dread legends told of his feats, whispered sagas of brothers lost and a terrible vengeance yet to be reaped...

(I am aware that a Tac squad can't have two special weapons, but I've run out of primer to finish up the last member of the squad. So, the running marine in Mk IV, from another squad I've yet to finish up, seemed fitting to make up the number).

Got tufts?

Facts are chains that bind perception and fetter truth. For a man can remake the world if he has a dream and no facts to cloud his mind.

@Ratius - Thanks! I wanted my Salamanders to reflect their particular aptitude for enduring extreme heat, but without the ridiculous implication that every world they fight on is volcanic.

@Ubl1k - Not sure I understand the question, but the tufts are from Serious Play on Ebay - and they're much better (IMHO) than Citadel's ones. These particular ones are 'Straw' - perfect for arid desert grass.

The painting is very smooth, and I enjoy your choice of green - it's very effective! The flames are also well executed, so well done!

You've done the impossible, you've made mk IV marines look OK (I hate them with a fiery passion). Love the flames, nice blending.

@WarbossDakka, Groo_The_Wanderer + stulkrover3 - Thanks! Flames are one of the things I actually loath doing, but being Salamanders it's a must. I always feel my flames are too 'Hot Rod' and not that realistic, so it's nice to hear some positive comments about them.

@Rolsheen - Same here. I'm not a fan of Mk IV, but one of my fave armour Mk's is the Mk IV Destroyer Variant - so every MK IV Marine I have is converted to wear Destroyer pattern armour, without the destroyer weapons. If you look closely, you may notice the reinforced chest pieces, greaves and vambraces.

From a fluff point of view, it's quite fitting as, aside from a small force for Xenos extermination, Vulkan abhorred Destroyer cadres and removed them from his Legion's forces. My explanation is that the surplus suits were handed out to supplement the Zone Mortalis units, where the extra plating and void-hardened systems would come in handy.
