When Shadow War: Armageddon was first released I thought it was going to be the new Kill Team / Necromunda / 40k in 40 minutes game.
Now after a few months we had a few minor updates but nothing really since the second printing of the book.

Is it going to be a one and done game or does anyone feel there is new stuff on the horizon, now that the new edition of 40k has rolled out..??

It looks like that the new necromunda game will have completely new rules and would only hope they would make a gangers list for SWA also.

I think shadow war was just something to tide us over before 8th dropped. I don't think there was some grand plans for its continuation seeing how Necromunda was just released.

Yeha weird, you'd think Necromunda and Shadow War could have been merged as one release, offering plaing hard as nails underhive gangs or existing factions.

The prevailing theory around here is that it was basically a terrain bundle with the old Necro rules thrown in to make it a 'boxed game'.

It was intended as a one-and-done, but the crazy popularity made them reprint and separately sell the book.

I don't think that there was ever anything else planned for it. Especially with Necromunda being relaunched in the near future.

I do remember hearing around Nova that GW was planning on "supporting" the game, whatever that means. It would be foolish to let Shadow war just languish after the big fan reaction it received. Model-wise it the perfect game to get someone to buy a box of minis and just start playing. Don't give up hope friend!

I would say it was a fine thing to fill time before 8th.
It was a fantastic excuse for a terrain release and should figure-in well for the new Necromunda coming out.
The box set was awesome (if you could get it) and I was happy with what I could configure:

I got 3 more tiles done after this shot.

This is very much a "hive" terrain since normal buildings or ruins tend to not get higher than 3 stories which is about 9".
It is a little too porous to be a tactical advantage other than maybe sniper nests (units not wanting to easily get grabbed in melee).

I also have more Orks and Scouts than I know what to do with from the 3 kits I bought.
I would say that at the very least, the "new" rules are very similar to the old Necromunda and is a worthy thing to have as an update until, well, the next skirmish game comes out.

Yeah I would love a book of new missions and other teams.. They had a few articles, but could do a ton more.

If they have a unit box set that is not selling well.. just make great rules for it in SWA and watch it fly off the shelves..

There is so much they could do... Something like the old inquisitor game rules, design something close to that but with
points and not 54 mm models..Do something else because the rules for the inquisitor gang seemed rushed. No detail and
everything is very generic..there is others they could talk about..

Have mission rules for like in mordehiem where it was kill the beast but instead be a space marine dreadnought or a Tyranid Carnifax.

There is a ton of places to pull ideas from .. Necromunda Yakromunda fan site plus all the alternate games that was made off
the original rules like gorka morka, mordehiem and ledgends of the old west... I even think they made a pirate game using the same rules...

Just hope GW allows it to die...loved this game and really could stand on its own if supported right and be the perfect entry level game..
Buy a book and a unit box... then off you go...

Honestly, I think the popularity caught GW by surprise.

I would guess that Necromunda is a little like SWA 2.0, and will be better supported over time.

Seriously dumb business move on GWs part to let SW fall by the wayside. It's the perfect gateway game to 40k.

Perfect gateway in that it uses an obsolete version of the rules from 20 years ago? I think not. It was a one and done release to promote the new Mechanicus terrain. Nothing more. With Necromunda coming, and much more closely based on 8th edition rules, Armageddon is likely to be consigned to the dustbin of GW history.

The book that came with the box set maybe, the terrain and miniatures: not so much.
I am unsure the new Necromunda will be all that "new" with 8th since there are some elements of the past involved and they bring back templates that 40k does not use right now.
I am happy to at least have some gang warfare going and a few more "civilians" to get caught in 40k warfare.

What we're getting is a lot closer to 8th than the Shadow War book that was nearly a copy/paste of the old rules from second edition days. And I obviously meant the Armageddon rules were going to disappear into history, not the terrain, or the already elderly miniatures that you got with it. The extra stats, templates, and alternate activation Underhive will have are fine for a skirmish game, but would mostly be out of place in a 40K game with dozens or hundreds of models. except for alternate activation, but that is a whole different can of worms.

That's funny becaus I got two new players into 40k via shadow war since it lets them play with their minis while working on their armies, instead of not being able to play until they've spent $400 and 4 months painting and lose interest. One guy didn't even plan on playing 40k, just shadow war, had no interest or experience with painting, and is now totally into it. Thanks to shadow war.

Seriously tell someone they need to spend hundreds of dollars and dozens of hours before they can play, that's going and turns people off. Tell them they can play with one box of $40, and that's an easy buy in. You have to remember new players are important.
