Hi there, new W40K player here. Have been trying my best to soak up the boundless knowledge on this forum since getting hold of the Dark Imperium set - so about time I registered and said hello. The modelling tips I've found on here have been amazing...incredibly useful for an entrant to what, on the whole, can seem an incredibly complex cost-intensive hobby!

All the best, from God's (the Emperor's?) own country.

Welcome to DakkaDakka whowantstheworld!

I can promise you one thing: 'Ask, and ye shall receive' - don't be shy in picking peoples brains and you'll find your skill and enjoyment of the hobby will grow immensely. Perhaps I could also suggest participating in Paradigm's unofficial painting competition - it's a great way to see what others are up to and get some quality advice from painters with a whole range of skill and interests.

Anyway, welcome and regards, from the North!

Indeed, I'll certainly be picking brains as soon as I get through assembling this Dark Imperium set. Can't decide which chapter to go with for the primaris marines...they don't seem to fit as cleanly into the various factions as I'd expected!

Still learning the rules so will have a few skirmishes against myself to get used to phases and game flow etc.

Thanks for the welcome!

Hey, welcome from the midlands.

I dived in with the dark imperium too. 8th edition is amazing, I'm utterly hooked. Which faction are you leaning towards, sticking with the marines?

I play maybe four times a week but haven't painted a single figure! Usually taking a battering form my girlfriends Dark Eldar. So any hobby tips, please share the wealth.

And although I do support my local store...

Should save you a few pennies if you're buying the bulk of an army. Ttcombat do some amazing cheap terrain too, which is as important as your figures in my opinion. And for our gaming table we brought two of Ikea's cheap trestle tops and sawed them down to 6x4 and the legs were only a tenner. So 40k everyday!

I'm thinking of making my own chapter for my primaris, and proxying the rules and faction stratagems I like the most from the codex. Torn between the Templars or the white scars. And kit bashing together your own unique characters is so cool. I've an Ork war boss conversion who looks so badass I smile whenever I look at him.

Oh and this site is great for tactical advice.

Anyway good luck with the hobby, hope I haven't patronised you. Because of course all my little nuggets of wisdom can be found with a quick Google search!

Not patronising at all, thanks for the welcome and the nuggets! Also a big fan of the templars lore and styling, crazy knights templar bezzing about on motorbikes in space? W40K is so over the top, it's brilliant!

Iron Hands background is really, really cool also. Having said that, after soaking up all the lore of the main chapters I think I'm going to just create my own.

But long term, Necrons...it's gotta be. Only thing that puts me off is building 80 identical warriors with glow sticks, but obviously that fits with the eternal servitude theme etc.

As a starting point, I'm just going to build the DI set and get the rules down...my fiancée will be forced to play against me. I figure grinding her forces to dust through a long war of attrition will prepare her for the years to come?

Thanks for the link as well, I'll check em out!

Welcome from the West side.

I'll likely see you on the field of battle, My night lords have had a lot of skirmishes against Primaris marines lately and are looking to add a few more of the new skulls to their stocks.

Nice one ta. As soon as I'm up to speed with playing through the rules I'll be seeking out some games so will add this to the list for sure

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
