Hi everybody new user here, recently I bust my leg and have to take 6-8 weeks of work and thought i would get back into 40k to keep me busy with building and painting etc. Now my challenge to you lot is to use around £250 to build me an imperiium army using waylandgames prices, the rules are as follows

Must be in the imperium faction
cant be totally SM (trying to stay away from them as much as possible)
has to be around 1500 points in total
£250 is to go entirely on models

Just a quick warning havent played 40k in about 5 years so dont know much about the new factions

thank you in advance

Do you have any other faction preferences? Power levels? Themes?...Or barring that, what sort of styles of play/game types do you like?

Like, I think I could make a ballin' AdMech list for that, but if you're not wanting to do pure AdMech, wouldn't want to waste your or my time.

This sounds like kind of a fun exercise.

1500 points for 250 pounds shouldnt be all that hard.

Catachans and scions?

why not get 2 catachan defense force boxes and two scion boxes

thats 242 pounds from the GW site so you may get it cheaper on other sites.

though you will need index imp 2

that nets you 40 guardsmen 10 command units, 6 heavy weapons teams, 20 scions, 2 lemons and 2 chimaras. (i dont know if this is enough to do 1500)

50 PL is equivalent to about 1,000 points, so 1,500 is ~75 PL

A Start Collecting Skitarii box (£40,~450 points) and a Start Collecting Minisortium Tempestus Box (£40, ~350 points) are both are great values for the models and selection of units to choose from. Using AdMech + Taurox for your defensive back line and Scions as a deep strike can be a super fun way to play - speaking from experience here.

From there, I'd recommend adding some Kastellan Robots (£34, ~300 points for a pair + the datasmith). That puts us at 1,100 points and £114 with plenty of HQ and troop choices to use form detachments from. From there, I'd say pick units that seem fun to you and flesh it out - it's your army and we should play what we find cool. Personally, I think it's hard to go wrong with an Eversor Assassin, Cawl, or more robots/dunecrawlers. Or toss in some Catachans. Maybe an Inquisitorial squad. World is your oyster. Hope that was helpful!

your mind

Tauroxes may be in need of wheels to look cool. Dunno if Wayland sells those but are common because the standard tracks look silly. With the collection posted just above at 114pounds, you have room for wheels.
PS looks like they carry spellcrow wheels.
PSS love the start collecting tempestus kit though. Two of those might be in order... Scion models are cool! Just need wheels.

I guess we all have our own tastes - I love the tracks on the Tauroxes. I feel like wheels would look awkward unless you themed the whole army as city fighters are something. But hey, that's the fun of modeling.

I suggest building your dunecrawler with a neutron laser. Your skitarii should be vanguards UNLES
they fixed Rangers and made their weapons ap-1 (can anybody confirm this? Rangers would compliment scions much better but they are mindboggingly crap this edition. The rest of it all is up to your tastes, but neutron lasers are a must and vanguard are still good while Rangers suck now now so your probably want to stay away from them for now. Have fun!

MAGNETSSSSSSS.... if you've got one Dunecrawler, you definitely want the option of running it with an Icarus Array. It's probably the best anti air vehicle in the game.
