I've got around 1500pts of orks and want to get to 2K points ideally. This is almost my entire collection from 5th edition, so might not necessarily the most competitive!

HQ
Warboss on warbike 111pts
Big mek with KFF 75pts

Elites
5 nobz (one with PK) 110pts

Troops
30 shoota boyz (nob with big choppa) 189pts
30 shoota boyz (nob with big choppa) 189pts
30 slugga boyz (nob with big choppa) 189pts

Fast
11 stormboyz (nob with PK) 97pts
5 warbikers (nob with PK) 160pts
Deffkopta with kopta rockets 93pts

Heavy
3 kannons 81pts
7 Lootas 119pts
8 Lootas 136pts

I'd be willing to drop the deffkopta for something. I could easily convert a few weirdboyz seeing as I hear they're good now. I also have an unpainted foot warboss with a PK. Any advice on further purchases? Stormboyz sound pretty fun these days.

Waaagh! Ork Warboss

Italy

A transport for the nobz. Alternatively cut the pk and add 5 ammo runts, they're cheap ablative wounds you may want anyway.

But yeah, weirdboyz, more stormboyz, and eventually zagstruck are all solid options if you want to expand your collection.

Get a weirdboy and put him with the heavies in a spearhead, get zagstruk and put him and the fast in an outrider. You will have 8 CP total using battalion for boyz, warboss, big mek and the elites. getting the nobz a trukk is important as well. I recommend more stormboyz instead of the bikes (bikes cost too much right now).

Do you have any tankbustas? 2 units of bustas with 1 squig each in a trukk are a good mid field camper to target stuff your lootas and kannons might not see.

How does this look :

Battalion
warboss, bike 111
big mek, kff 75
30 boyz, big choppa nob 189
30 boyz, big choppa nob 189
30 boyz, big choppa nob 189
6 nobz, 6 big choppa, 5 ammo runt 176
trukk,big shoota, wrecking ball 85

Outrider
zagstruk 88
26 stormboyz, big choppa nob 217
26 stormboyz, big choppa nob 217
deffkopta, rokits, big bomb 83

Spearhead
Weirdboy 62
7 lootas 119
7 lootas 119
3 kannons 81

Thanks for the advice guys - I'll have a look at zagstruk, I'd not considered him yet...

Are big choppas the way to go over PKs now?

And afraid I don't own any tankbustas - this list is basically my entire collection from 5th!

I definitely agree on the Weirdboy, Da Jump is instrumental in re-positioning big groups of Boyz and getting those juicy Turn 1 and Turn 2 charges.

Due to the high strength of Nobs and the relative cheapness of Big Choppas, they're considered pretty good. They get the Strength high enough to put a dent in transports and medium tanks, and although their AP isn't amazing they'll get the job done.

That's fine about the tankbustas--I haven't used mine in 8th yet, I just hear they are handy. General rule is still boyz over toyz. more boyz=more leadership so trying to max out cheap units is strong for long game.

Big choppas are more efficient than klaws at the moment, but if they get the price drop that power fists did (25 to 12) then klaws will probly be viable again. Since mobs or giant mechanical units are the meta, having -1 to hit and maybe only doing 1 damage isn't as good as always doing 2 damage but they have to fail saves to get value. Invul saves are rampant on the things you would want to klaw (namely characters) but klaws are still your best bet for nobz to kill land raiders. Killsaw are the desired weapon, however, with ap-4 and consistent 2 damage.
