Subject: Exocrine vs Leman Russ Executioner

As I play a GSC/Tyranid/AM mash up these two choices are in direct competition for me. I could buy an Exocrine or a Leman Russ Executioner (or tank commander/pask variant) for similar points values. I'm wondering which can give me the best setup for around 600 points including supporting units.I have screening units already in the list (sometimes Termagants, sometimes conscripts) so don't worry about that part of supporting these options.Essentially I'm looking for a solid firebase that puts out a whole bunch of plasma shots and these 2 units look like good options.
So far my thoughts are either:
2 Exocrines, Malanthrope for 564 points
OR
2 Leman Russ Executioners (with Sponson Plasma Cannons) and Pask for 585.
The -1 to hit when being shot at for the exocrines is very nice, but obviously, reroll 1s is great for the Russes and with 3 tanks they have more wounds in total. The Exocrines also typically get more shots (24 instead of 18.5) and, obviously, with a fixed number of shots have a more reliable damage output.
Thoughts?

No chance of the Exocrines killing themselves either.

You're probably better off just going with the battle cannon rather than the executioner. You lose 1 AP, but you no longer have the chance to hurt yourself. Leman Russ turret weapons this edition are pretty meh....

yeah, executioner is terribad since they made the baffling call to *not* just directly port it to the new blast profiles. 3D3 would have made it an excellent gun, and given us a very reliable anti elite platform.
Hey guys I have a great idea, lets make a 200+ point tank and give it a gun that can get fewer shots than a 7 point plasma gun. That'll be great.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

I'll stick with the exocrines then.

You could also wait until the codexes come out, and see if their points adjust.
Malanthropes and Exocrines are really cool models though, imo.

I could wait, but I already have the models and am trying to decide what to use this week, so it won't really help. I've been playing Stealers, Nids and Guard since.. 5th? Maybe. Around that time, there wasn't a GSC codex back then.
I do really like my Malanthrope/Exocrine team. I kind of want to add a Tervigon in as well, but it's just not very good.
