Played a friendly game at the LGS last night. Apparently there's been some community rules interpretation.
We played Open War with the card deck. 2000 point. Deployment: we follow the setup right down the line. I begin the model drops but my opponent finishes the alternating deployment first. He says, "So I get to go first." I say, "No, because of the FAQ we still roll off but you get a +1 to that roll."
It's explained to me that the FAQ only specifies that those points affect Matched Play, not Open War. And the locals have "read the FAQ a number of times to be sure."

Is this the consensus? Or taking things too literally? An oversight?

Which FAQ are you talking about? Just out of curiosity.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Ahh, so changes that are technically only in use at certain events, but will be for Matched Play if you decide to use them.

Given that book isn't even out yet, it can't be Rules yet. Unless you're house-ruling to follow that in advance of publication.

That article is a teaser, not an FAQ.

I'd follow what it says on the cards - it's the point of them!

I'd say this-just ask how you want to play it BEFORE you start.

It's not official yet, so it's technically not even valid for Matched Play, so just say "Hey, are we using the deployment finishing first gets first turn, or +1 to the roll?"

Clocks for the clockmaker! Cogs for the cog throne!
