Hello!
Since AoS was first announced, I've wanted to play Sylvaneth. Being a fan of the Old World wood elves and a botanist in real life, it was a no-brainer. So I took most of my tree spirit models and rebased them. I started with the treemen (now treelords), dryads, drycha (old school), and treekin.
The first iteration of the "Wood Elves" compendium had treekin in there and they had the "Sylvaneth" keyword, so I've been adding them in my armies with no problem.
But after the release of the General's Handbook 2017, they re-issued the compendiums with some much-needed updates. Unfortunately, they have removed the "Sylvaneth" keyword from the treekin. Now they only have the keywords "Order" and "Treekin". Strange...
They did add in rules for allies, but there doesn't seem anyway I can use treekin in my Sylvaneth army and maintain the Sylvaneth allegiance. I'd have to just call it an "Order" army.
Am I missing something? Does there seem to be any way to add treekin and not lose all of the green, leafy goodness of the Sylvaneth allegiance rules?
Thanks.

You can bring a percentage of your points in matched play as 'allies' and still benefit from the primary allegiance abillity.
In AOS you can literally take any unit and make an army out of them (chaos demon battleline, order heroes, some orruk meganobz, maybe some slaves to darkness chariots and beastclaw raiders thrown in there, just no allegiance ability of any sort) and it is a legal army, as long as it has the required battleline and heroes (battleline and heroes are only required if its a matched play game)
In a 2000 point game, you get 400 points of allies. 200 in 1000 points, you get the point. There is a list in the GHB that specifically states what factions sylvaneth can ally with, wood elves and stormcast eternals.

You can't ally in Treekin since they do not have a faction keyword that is on Sylvaneth's ally list. What you can do is use them counts-as as melee Kurnoth hunters, outside of an official event or tournament I can't see people having a problem with it since they aren't OP anymore.

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.
I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games. |

Yeah, That's what I was worried about. Since they removed they faction keywords, there seems to be no way to allow them under the ally rules. I'll just grab some more kurnoth hunters and cycle these guys out.
At least I get some new models! :-)
