There is a part of the FAQ that suggests that you can use older versions of warscrolls.

Does this mean you can use older versions to bypass the keyword removal that they did with the General's Handbook 2017 release?

No, because the points values listed for GHB2 are for the updated versions.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Where does it say that they're only for the new versions?

There's only two places to find points costs for legacy warscrolls; GHB1 (now invalid) and in the pdf downloads which include updated warscrolls and the costs for them.

Why can't I use the new points from the updated PDF and the old warscroll? The FAQ bit I quoted seems to indicate this is fine.

Yeah, this seems to be legal. There were a few units who got renamed or substituted who no longer possess updated point costs. I guess those units are officially dead now.

You would be using a warscroll that doesn't have a points cost.

I mean if you want to get really technical there's all sorts of ridiculous holes in the AoS rules, but I think it's pretty clear how things are supposed to work. At any rate, if an opponent disagrees with your interpretation all it takes is a 4+ to force use of the updated version anyway.

I cannot see any TO agreeing with this. Most (all in fact)tournament rules that I have seen put in there rule packet that you need to use the latest version of a warscroll.

This FAQ is clearly intended for open play. Or if you play a really friendly or narrative game and want to travel back to the old world. But I cannot imagine many opponents agreeing to play you if you are doing this for rule purposes. That is just TFG stuff.

Play against a lord of change on an old version balewind vortex, and you will know why stuff gets updated
