Hey gents (and ladies?) I bought a gillion ancient 10mm minis from Pendraken.

In the book it suggests basing as follows for 6-10mm infantry
TROOP----------MODELS----------- BASE SIZE
Light ------------- 2-3 ------------------ 40 x 20 mm
Medium -------- 6-8 ------------------ 40 x 20 mm
Heavy ----------- 8-12 ---------------- 40 x 15 mm

Now, to me, it seems very silly not to just keep all the infantry base sizes the same. It seems CRAZY. Like so crazy it upsets my CDO (its like OCD but all the letters have to be in alphabetical order).

Anyway, i was thinking about just varying the number of models per base only. Here is pictured from left to right, Light Medium and Heavy Infantry stands. Any thoughts. I know its not popular, but the simplicity of the game is so elegant and appealing!

The base width is, I believe, a carry over from DBA and WRG systems. They're supposed to represent close-ordered troops, compared to medium infantry which is a little more spread out.

It's also more fluid, I think you can get away with 15-20 on Heavy infantry bases.

Also, don't forget that each battleline infantry unit in ADLG is actually twice that size. So a base of heavy infantry is 40 x 30 mm, medium is 40 x 40 mm. Only light infantry are 40 x 20mm.

@Infinite:it's not the width im worried about, as they are all 40mm. Furthermore for heavy its 8-12 models per base. And LADG rules say nothing about being "twice that size". I am referencing page 7. Am I mistaken somehow?

Sorry, I meant base depth, not width, and when I said 15-20, I meant mm, not miniatures.

Check out page 7 again, in the paragraph just above the troop categories/types chart on the left column: "Each unit is represented by a single base (or stand) for mounted and light troops or by two or three bases for other foot units. Essentially this is to permit the easy identification of different types of units, as well as to allow for a more pleasing visual effect."

This allows people to use their DBA/WRG/FoG bases with ADLG, by making stands of units out of 1-3 bases for other systems. Or, as my group has done, you just use the larger bases sizes as single stands, like so:

I don't really think it matters much if you want to use 40x40mm or 2 40x20mm bases for everything but skirmishers. The 10mm depth between HI and MI won't make much of a difference in most situations.
