Noble Knight of the Realm

Hi all,

October is the month for an Open War 1250 point Matched Play league in my local GW. We have escalated from Skirmish games, and a few Path To Glory games.

A lil floof:

Warden King Fimrul Smeltbeard carved a home from nothing. A master miner and craftsduradin in the realm of Shyish he dug deep and he dug fast. The promise of protection and a safe hearth in the dark days of the Age of Myth drew a growing Duradin host to his banner. The fastness was not easily won. Within the boundaries of Neferata's Nulahmia he crafted what become the Murn-Ulihm Fastness of the Gallowdeeps. Assailed by the Flesh Eater courts of the depths, but largely ignored by Neferata's minions Murn-Ulihm prospered. It's true wealth lay in a dark ore and sapphire deposits, now forged into the Murn-Ulihm hosts armour.

All that grows within the realm of Shyish however lends itself to the ever present prescience of Nagash. If it was not for the Slannesh warbands assaulting Neferata or for the Age of Chaos, with Nagash's alliance with Sigmar turning the dead's eyes from the Duradin Murn-Ulihm would certainly not exist. All is never that simple. Archaon and Tzeentch conspired to drive the allies apart. The War of Heaven and the Underworlds left Nagash weakened, and the War of Bones saw the destruction of his capital by the Skaven. With Nagash thought dead at the Battle of the Black Skies, the Flesh Eater courts were replaced by a more sinister familiar old foe. Skaven.

The Age of Sigmar was to hand and during the Realmgate Wars, the Stormcast Eternals, Anvils of the Heldenhammer came to the aid of Neferata to defend her city Nulahmia against a Slaaneshi champion, Lord Lascilion. Sigmar once again offering Nagash the chance to re-forge their alliance, and as part of this treaty entrusted not only his lightning warriors, but Fimrul Smeltbeard and his host of Murn-Ulihm to assist in the defense of Neferata and to make good on an un-easy alliance.

And so, to war.

Here is my proposed list:

Warden King - Fimrul Smeltbeard
Ancestral Pickaxe
*Not sure on Warlord Trait/command ability/battle trait

Runelord - Ormaeth Kamorli

Runelord - Bariz Grumm

x20 Hammerers

x40 Warriors

x30 Quarrellers

93 Models 105 Wounds 1240 Points

The general plan is to bunker my Quarrellers and Runelord's behind the 40 Warriors. Letting the Quarrellers pepper whichever comes in range with the addition of a -2 rend and 61 shots.

The Hammerers and Fimrul will use the Pickaxe to surprise units as and when necessary. Hopefully picking off whatever the Quarrellers have left them. Before this time its about bunkering, and weathering the storm.

C&C/thoughts really appreciated. First time out with the Duradin!

Thanks.

I think you have a good list here, and your general strategy is solid. Assuming your local meta is not highly competitive you should do well.

Some things with Dispossessed: In general, while having some of the elite infantry is fine be careful not to sink too many points into those units (Hammerers, Longbeards, Irondrakes, Ironbreakers) because they aren't quite as strong for their points as the basic warriors/tunderers/quarrelers. Obviously the latter should be maximum size, warriors should be greataxe&shield, etc. You seem to have this covered quite well.

I would go resilient on your general since he will be up in the enemy's face and you want to keep him alive. Another decent option would be grudgebearer, letting you pick stuck-up to help snipe enemy heroes at the start then switch to something else once you've killed the prime targets.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.
