This is just spurred on by what just happened to me while painting my Death Guard.
I paint in my bed because I'm lazy and like to make poor decisions, so essentially what just happened was well. I knocked over the bottle of Serephim Sepia I was using to recess shade and it got EVERYWHERE. See I've spilled Nuln Oil before and that was bad, but at least Nuln Oil just looked like black tar.
This literally looks like I smeared poop all over the bed..
So I changed sheets and am about to go wash my hands, but I gotta ask
What is the worst paint accident you guys have ever had?
From not thinning paints and making playdough faced marines, to knocking over the nuln oil on your white bed sheets?
What do you guys have to add?

Not me but my nephew, and years ago.

3 weeks into a new house, he's painting at the dining room table. Knocks over a pot of blood red paint onto the new cream carpet. Correctly assumes his mother will kill him and panics. Jumps up, landing in the paint. Runs through the dining room, living room, hall, up the stairs, landing and into his room. £3K worth of carpet to be replaced after 3 weeks in ....

I once knocked over a bottle of red ink I was using to ink some khorne models. My dad thought I stabbed myself with my exacto knife.

Turned out to have a silver lining though; the spillage got on my models the EXACT way looking like a blood splatter from chopping an enemy. I have never been able to achieve a look like that since.

Maybe knock over more bottles of ink near miniatures

Not paint but, I knocked over a jar of plasti-weld onto my dining room table. All over a sprue of primaris marines. luckily it didn't weld any of it to the table but it did weld my hobby knife to the cutting board underneath.

I’ve stabbed myself pretty good before, but the worst was having a bottle of superglue explode in my mouth. I was doing something stupid, trying to get a stuck cap off with my teeth, and of course one thing going led to another...

It peeled off my tongue in like one big sheet, but I had to take dental tools and literally scrap it off my teeth, and schedule an appointment for a cleaning.

It doesn't really get much worse than that.

I had a pot of Eshin Grey explode in my pocket, soiling my pants.

Cut myself with the Citadel Mold Line remover, and now the GW store manager can't say that you can't hurt yourself with it.

Hurt my legs using the apocalyptic blast template as a frisbee, and had to swim through a thornbush to retrieve it.

3 more pairs of pants ruined by spilled paint, including my favorite pajamas.

3 stitches in my thumb from an errant knife, almost cut the tendon.

Permanent discoloration on my right pinkie's nail due to some dodgy primer.

Stepped on a metal model with upraised sword.

Sat on a metal model with upraised sword.

Almost poked eye out checking LOS near a spiky building.

I've had several near misses with my X-acto knife and I've poked myself pretty hard on a couple of spiky models, but not hard enough to actually draw blood. I've had a couple of relatively minor paint mishaps: one was spilling half a pot of Screaming Bell all over my card table where I was painting. Fortunately it was easy enough to clean up. The other was when I was closing a bottle of Mournfang Brown and bobbled it, dropping it on the carpet and spilling a little bit of the paint in a line on the carpet. I think I *mostly* got the stain out, but I still think I can kiss my security deposit goodbye whenever I eventually move out of this apartment.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2023: 40 | Total models painted in 2024: 12 | Current main painting project: Dark Angels

In a van down by the river

Going way back in the day I was examining paint for some fool reason before going to bed and the bottle of Blood Angels Orange (and wow does that date this story) ends up all over myself and the bed. Folks weren't pleased about that, and mysteriously I was only allowed paint on top of newspaper and typically out in the garage or someplace with a throw rug under it. Only other time I spilled something was comparatively recently with a bottle of Drakenhof ink (after they had gone to the big bottle, natch) and that got on a small bit of clothing and the "extra" sheets I use as a slight cushion for the chair. Those sheets are tan with navy blue irregular stripes on them though so it barely shows.

The other major mishap I can recall involves black paint from Vallejo. I was trying to work on some tracks from my FoW Germans and was trying to get it out of the bottle but apparently there was a small clog. Do I get the unclogging paper clip that I actually have right there for such things? Of course not! Deciding that I did indeed take physics for absolutely no reason at all, I simply apply more force with completely predictable results and a ton of black paint on the palette. I did, however, get nearly all the vehicles done rather than just the squad's worth I was planning on so I suppose silver lining that not wanting to waste that much paint gave me a lot more motivation than I would have had otherwise!

My only major knife mishap also happened with those same German vehicles; trying to cut through the sprue and not paying attention to where my hand ended up. Fortunately it was relatively shallow and clean (X-actos and all that) so it healed up in a few days with just band-aids. I now clip the sprues with cutters and then shave down with the knife afterwards as I probably should have been doing in the first place.

That one happened to me with white primer- just after having to repair the unit because when I had finished painting I picked it up to show my wife and dropped it straight onto the laminate flooring...

Shaking a jar of yellow paint without the lid on.Green fleece jacket now yellow, brand new cd with card board cover now yellow.
Spraying into a strong wind with black primer.Would have been fine if my mouth was closed and I wasn't wearing glasses.
Dropping a paintbrush with dried superglue onto dried varnish and starting a fire. No,I don't have a clue about how that happened!
Dropping a figure in black armour into a palette containing white paint.

I spent a day spraying some terrain pieces dark brown with my heavy duty airbrush. I had my goggles and mask on but I got a funny look from the neighbour when I answered the door mahogany brown but with a white ring around each eye and another around my mouth. My black and white cat sometimes likes to smarten himself up with a pot of metallic as well. So far he has tipped a full pot of Stormhost Silver, Leadbelcher and Auric Gold over himself. I have no idea why he only targets metallics.

Under the couch

I can deal with tipping over a pot of paint, or gluing my fingertips together (which I've done more times over the years than I can count)... the big one for me was spending 2 weeks paintstakingly painting a Space Marine Terminator Captain, and then while sorting out the final detailing, dropping him into my paint pallet, right into a big puddle of wet paint.

Same model was knocked off a shelf onto a concrete floor a week after I got him finished. Poor guy was clearly doomed from the start.

I've done the same thing with a clogged Vallejo paint (dark brown). Squeezed it too hard and it exploded all over me and the couch

My Vallejo Glorious Gold was clogged, so I squeezed it free. I was pointing it upward.

Got a bunch of gold paint on some loose bits and there's still a splotch of it on the edge of the shelf above my desk.

Probably work

A few years ago, my former roommate had just finished painting up his Commissar Lord he spent quite a bit of time on, and then went to go seal him... and didn't realize that he grabbed the white spray out of the box instead of the matte sealer.

I don't know for sure if he ever actually went back and fixed it at that point. He was pretty pissed though.

Painting an AdMech Chicken Walker meticously with Airbrush to get a nice transition on the red armour plates.
Put in all the details, paint the lil mechanicus skulls half black, then white.
Put it down, almost done, proud as feth.
Notice I somehow got Ceramite White all over my fingers.
Notice the airbrushed red armourplates smeared with white fingerprints all over.

Threw the entire thing across the room in a khornate fit of rage, shattering it into a dozen pieces, scaring the cats out of the flat.

And that kids is not only how I scared my cats for live, but also wasted about 15h of time and 38€ of model in 60 seconds.

I've done that before, but I'm sure whatever I was painting wasn't as great a loss as yours!
