Ella, I am a newbie to AOS and just recently returned to the hobby. I was wondering about the AOS rules that were 4-pages when I took my break if they have changed in anyway? I have heard of the generals handbook that adds points but have they added anything else? Some more advanced rule or another ruleset that you can use or an upcoming one? Want to state that I am not asking for the return of WFB but simply something that makes AOS more customisable with mages and heroes.

No, as far as official goes, GH2017 is the only thing.
The rules are fine with the GH rules for Matched Play added.

I'm not really sure where you need more customisable characters, as (mostly) everything has responding warscrolls you can use.
It doesn't really matter if a Wight King has a sword and shield like the GW model or a mace and a shield.
Neither does it matter if a Wight King with a Black Axe has an axe or a two handed-sword on the model.

GHB2 is what you want, in addition to a battletome if your faction of choice has one.

As noted above... GHB2 has some of that.

Anything more you'd have to houserule in yourself. GHB2's customization is limited.
