Lots of new toys, plugging a lot of the holes in the US list. Looking at the list of releases last night was Christmas in october. The US are back with in a vengeance in Team Yankee.

Useful link for those who haven't seen the releases: http://btassault.wpengine.com/incoming-intel-stripes-product-guide/

While the omission of the MLRS is bothersome, I like most of the rest of what they're showing. The Sgt. York is certainly a reach, but that's undoubtedly a balancing inclusion to go with Shilka and Gepard as the anti-IFV horde/anti-air option. Not ideal, but the entire war is fictional so I find it less bothersome than trying to shoe-horn an M1 into Vietnam, for example.

Very keen to add in some Pattons, and of course Chaparrals. Not sure I'm going to go down the road of a USMC force though, given the mountains of unfinished TY stuff I have lying about. Will also likely be picking up the terrain, because there's no such thing as too much terrain.

A December release does raise the question of what BF is doing in November; Fighting First looks like it only has releases through October.

How much WW2 kit wouldn't have made it to production if there hadn't been a war? War means you'll make do with a less than ideal answer than do without.

Even though I don't play Americans, I do plan on picking up a box of Yorks. Too many childhood memories of seeing the York on the evening news while Congress was debating its fate and thinking it was an awesome looking tank

Very true, Ghaz. It will be interesting to see if it's an "idealized" version where everything works like it should (which was reportedly impressive when it worked) or if it has some sort of drawback on shooting to represent the teething troubles it had. Not sure the rules structure would really allow for such a thing though, so I suspect it will be the former option. Still, I agree it looks neat.

Maybe the Sgt. York will have the "re-roll successful hit rolls" to be more realistic. javascript:emoticon('');

They blew off the Bradley and the MLRS for the SGT. YORK!?

WTH!?

Seriously. WTH ARE THEY THINKING!?

Edit - on another note, people were threatening to restart the Soviet ERA wars on the BF forums when the Sgt. York in Stripes was just an unsupported rumor. i.e. If the US gets something like the Sgt. York that never actually made it into production, why can't the Soviets have ERA in 1985? That will then restart the fights over the late model versions of the T-80, etc... Does ANYONE at BF actually think things through before releasing stuff like this? The Russian players ( as opposed to players of any nationality who happen to play Soviets) are going to go ballistic over this.

I suppose we are doing a fictional conflict here, so BF are free to release what they want if it fits their commercial interests. You do have to wonder though about there not being a Bradley, although would have thought almost certainly PSC have one in the works and this could be to blindside them?

Personally quite like the look of the Humvees and the Marine support Harriers are a pretty cool inclusion (although probably something I would try and find a plastic kit for)

The problem with Sgt. York isn't that they added it. It's that they added it after having several arguments with some of the more vocal player base about Soviet equipment where BF used strict historical details as reasons not to add them or why they got rated as such. This is already starting fights on facebook and the forums.

Again though, it's ultimately up to BF what the release.

You can make the most logical argument and reference the hypocritical logic at play with the releases, and BF can just answer with this:

From the FOW Website:

Release Schedule

September sees the release of our third book for Mid War, Fighting First, covering the US forces in North Africa. This book is larger than either Desert Rats or Afrika Korps and when combined with the Command Cards will almost complete our coverage of the Americans in Mid War.

◾At the start of November we will see the updated Team Yankee rulebook and new starter set “Hammerfall” release. It will be followed by Stripes (US forces in Team Yankee) which will be released in late November along with part 2 of our Firestorm Campaign.
◾Following this we have the fourth Mid War desert book which will cover the Italians. It will include new plastic kits including a M14/41 tank and Semovente self-propelled gun, as well as artillery and anti tank guns in plastic. In addition there will be a fully remastered resin and metal range.
◾We then have the final desert book to conclude our coverage of the battles in North Africa; 8th Army, which will focus on the British infantry and tank forces (yes it will include British Sherman tanks and Priest SPGs) not already covered in Desert Rats. This will come with several new plastic tanks as well as the lend-lease US vehicles that the British can field.

From here we will turn our attention to the Eastern Front where battles like Kursk and Stalingrad will be the focus towards he middle of next year.

Probably the same thing they were thinking when they released the Desert Rats book without any option for Sherman tanks. The model isn't ready so we will just kick that can down the road.

The Bradley could frontline a whole new sourcebook down the line. Why would Battlefront shoot their whole wad in one book. By spreading it out it extends the life of the game. The York is a resin/metal model, it's not like it replaced the sure to be plastic Bradley in the production line.

That's just half of it, though. Releasing the Sgt. York AT ALL at this point was a mistake on their part. As a US player, I unequivocably say -

THEY. SHOULD. NOT. HAVE. DONE. THAT.

They should have saved it for a later book, when they could start adding in the non-historical "might have beens".

Team Yankee in its entirety is 'non-historical' and 'what might have been'. If we would have seen a real World War III in 1985, I would say the odds would have been good that we would have seen the Sergeant York in front-line service.

I agree with you. But it wouldn't have been functional during the first few weeks of the war, which is where the setting is at the moment.

Thus why, imo, they really should have saved it for a later book.
